GROSS MOTOR SKILLS: BALLOON PLAY Balloon Play. Gross motor skills are not only essential for moving around and playing; they are also crucial for fine motor development. Our control over our whole body impacts the way our hands function. We need a stable base from which our arms and hands can operate. Our trunks need to be strong and stable to hold us up. BREAD RECIPE: TWO INGREDIENT BREAD Continue slicing until your tube’s finished, and pop some extra cheese on your swirls for good measure. Bake at 180C for 20mins or until golden. Enough teasing. Check out Jennifer Cheung’s recipe to make your bread with just two ingredients. Here are the ingredients: 1 cup self raising flour, 1 cup of Greek or natural yoghurt. READING: WHEN CHILDREN DON'T KNOW THE WORD These questions would also be helpful to have readily at home as children practise and integrate their reading skills and strategies. Click here for a free printable of the above reading strategies when children don’t know the word. (In the free printable PDF version, the words “free printable” have been removed). May 2013. GARDENING: 25 KIDS ACTIVITIES Add organic matter – Add compost or manure thickly over the surface. Five to 10cms is really good covering. Mix the organic matter with the soil – Using a fork or spade, gently mix the organic matter with the loosened soil surface. Leave the garden bed to settle – A great time to release some earthworms into the garden. BABY TOYS: BALL GAMES FOR BABIES This is a great ball game for babies during tummy time. Place a colourful ball (or several of them) in front of the baby and encourage them to reach for the ball/s. {THREE} Gentle ball massage. Using a soft ball, gently roll it across baby’s tummy and up and down baby’s arms and legs. During tummy time, you can also roll the balldown baby
RECIPE: CHINESE NEW YEAR ANG KU KUEH Instead, I roll out a small amount of Ang Ku Kueh pastry, place the pastry flat within my palm, spoon a small amount of filling onto the pastry, wrap the pastry around the filling and roll it into a ball before placing it within my Ang Ku Kueh mould. Times for steaming your Ang Ku Kueh will vary, depending on the size of your Ang Ku Kuehmoulds.
D.I.Y. MOON SAND (OR CLOUD DOUGH) I looked online for a DIY alternative of Moon Sand and came across Flights of Whimsy’s Cloud Dough. I thought the Cloud Dough would be a good DIY version of Moon Sand, so gave it a go. Ingrdients. 8 cups plain flour. 1 cup baby oil (or any oil if you’re concerned withusing baby oil)
HEALTHY KIDS: 5 EASY RUNNING GAMES FOR KIDS Players can only run to the other side when the IT team shouts, “BULLRUSH!”. The game continues until only one player is left.
