APPRENTICESHIP POSITIONS THE BUSINESS OF ART: CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Business of Art Program The Business of Art: Class Descriptions. The Business of Art: Financial Bootcamp For Playwrights, a partnership of The Lark and Playwrights of New York (PoNY), is a workshop which provides playwrights with free financial tools, education, and coaching in an effort to support their lives as artists in New York City. In June 2016, we are offered six classes led by Elaine VAN LIER NEW VOICES FELLOWSHIPJOHN CLINTON EISNER
John Clinton Eisner co-founded The Lark in 1994 as a community of theater professionals dedicated to the playwright’s vision. He has grown The Lark into an award winning “think tank for the theater,” with local, national and global reach. DONJA R. LOVE : FEATURED PLAYWRIGHTS Donja R. Love (he/him/his) is Black, Queer, HIV-Positive, and thriving. A Philly native, his work examines the forced absurdity of life for those who identify as Black, Queer, and HIV-Positive – a diverse intersection filled with eloquent stories that challenge the white supremacist, heteronormative structures that exist in Americanculture.
NORA BRIGID MONAHAN
Nora Brigid Monahan (they/them/their) is a playwright, performer, and Director of Development at The Lark. Their professional career in the arts began as a child actor, with numerous appearances on television and on stages across New York City. Nora is best known for writing and starring in the dark solo comedy DIVA (winner of the 2013 USolo NISSY AYA | THE LARK Nissy Aya is a Black girl from the Bronx. She joined The Lark as the 2016-2017 Artistic Programming apprentice and now serves as the Artistic Coordinator. She is a writer, educator, and cultural worker who believes in the transformative nature of storytelling and sees theatre as a tool to create social change by empowering disenfranchised communities to unapologetically portray their whole RAEDA TAHA : FEATURED PLAYWRIGHTS Raeda Taha was born in Jerusalem in 1965 and raised in Beirut. She holds a BA in Speech Communication and Journalism from George Mason University in Washington DC. Between 1987 and 1994, she was the Press Secretary of Chairman Yasser Arafat. . Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah, Palestine anda member

The Rita Goldberg Playwrights’ Workshop program is an annual residency that gathers five playwright fellows at various career stages. The Apothetae and Lark Playwriting Fellowship provides a two-year cycle of support to a Deaf/Disabled writer, for the generation and development of a new play to essay and challenge perceptions of the "Disabled Experience."
