Recognizing where any expectations are coming from is the first step to dismissing them and establishing an inner-contentment. These expectations that people have thrown at you are likely irrational, make no sense, and are designed to make you feel inadequate. THE DANGER IN THINKING YOU'RE SPECIAL Anyways, you can keep telling yourself that you’re special if it makes you feel better, but it’s doing you more harm than good. “I’m Special.”. It’s commonly thrown around now. Parents tell their kids they’re special, people tell themselves that they’re special. This type of thinking is dangerous though. THE EMPOWERING MINDSET VS. THE EGO-DRIVEN MINDSET The Ego-driven mindset: Ego-driven self-talk is centered around a need to feel superior. It’s maintaining the illusion that if you knock others down it’ll make you look stronger. Examples of this type of self-talk are common things such as: Gym Bro: “Wow look THE UNIVERSE OWES YOU NOTHING I spilled some cottage cheese at Trader Joe’s and that shit blew up like Charles Barkley one week off Weight Watchers. But most significant, it’s also forgetting a much more important thing – that you’re likely just as flawed as that person, and to take offense to FAKE PASSION VS. REAL PASSION Fake passion relies on some outside source to be their motivation; real passion relies on their internal qualities to be their source of strength. One is pleasure driven, the other is goal driven. One seeks immediate gratification, the other delays it for a much larger reward. SHUT DOWN THE DRAMA QUEENS BY DOING THIS ONE THING What a drama queen. But chances are you’ve been tangled up with a few drama queens yourself. Some drama queens may come in the form of being passive aggressive that look to indirectly stir up conflict. Other drama queens may be aggressive and domineering, but deep down they’re trying to fill the void of a gaping, bottomless hole ofemptiness.
