As the popularity of iLoveShelling.com has increased, Pam truly has become the local shellebrity on Sanibel. She regularly participates in local shelling events on the island, sharing her love for shelling with fellow ROAD TRIP FOR SEASHELLS IN THE FLORIDA KEYS MurexKen with a Queen Conch. Within an hour or so arriving in the Keys, we strapped on our fins, mask, snorkel and grabbed our shell bags then splashed into the water to seek and explore throughout the weekend. MurexKen found a beautiful live QUEEN CONCH to point out the amazing colors and to show us how many there were living in thegrasses.

After returning home from a shell collecting trip, there are tasks of unpacking, cleaning and sorting to begin some sort of process for organization. WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENT HOLES IN SEASHELLS? The grooves in these CROSS BARRED VENUS CLAMS and TRANSVERSE ARK aren’t the handiwork of the SHARKS EYE or DRILLS. These grooves were most likely made by a BRISTLE WORM. It uses a rasping technique with its bristled body while secreting acid to etch a groove in the shell to make a nice cozy place to rest. PACKING BREAKABLE SEASHELLS SAFELY FOR TRAVELING Clark and I are now pros at packing our suitcases to and from our destination for our shelling trips. We pack our shells for safe traveling in all sorts of recycled containers like plastic nut jars, Pringles cans, plastic lunch meat containers, butter tubs, plastic Gatorade and water bottles. FINDING SEASHELLS ON TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS We went to Turks and Caicos Islands on our vacation and it was a-mazing! We explored just about every beautiful inch of North Caicos and took several wild adventures to Middle Caicos and found that to be just as breathtaking. TIPS FOR DECORATING YOUR YARD WITH SEASHELLS Decorating your yard with seashells is just as much fun as decorating the inside of your home with shells. I showed you how our friends Dick and Mary decorated the inside of their house (Tips To Decorate Your Home With Seashells) but now, hold on to your boot straps because the outside of their home is just as fabulous. HOW TO RESTORE COLOR TO YOUR SEASHELLS Bleach, dental picks and mineral oil can usually restore the surface color of the shell without actually hurting the shell. These comments are not intended to be a criticism, but I do want you and your many readers to know that the use of muriatic acid or any other acid to BEACHCOMBING ELEUTHERA ISLAND IN THE BAHAMAS Beachcombing Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. After our shelling trip last week to the beautiful island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, I’m gonna rename it “Shelleuthera”! In a week’s time, we explored probably 20 beaches or more finding everything from SEA GLASS, to POTTERY SHARDS, to SEA BEANS, to SEA URCHINS and SEA BISCUITS, to FINDING SEASHELLS ON CLEARWATER BEACH Lots of these shells were found on our boating day with Captain Paul Hajash I told you about on my last post “i Love Shelling- Clearwater Beach” but we also found lots of shells on the beach in front of our hotel – Hilton Clearwater Beach. Right beside the hotel is Pier 60 which seems to collect little pockets of shells and you know we love our mini shells oh yaya baby lots minis! TRUE OR FALSE ANGEL WINGS Here are some of my ANGEL WING type shells together so you can see the difference between all of them. The ANGEL WING on the left is 4 inches. The STRIATE PIDDOCK is an inch and 1/4, the FALSE ANGEL WING is about the same size (1 and 1/4 inches). Then the MUD PIDDOCK is an inch and 3/4. We went for a boat ride around North Captiva on Saturday. It’s been months since we’ve been on our boat so he was bound and determined to get out and about on the water. ANGELS ON THE GULF COAST Where one can look for shells and things, And gather the gifts that each tide brings. I like to walk upon the sand, Between the ocean and the land. To breathe the wonderful salty air, And feel the breeze blow through my hair. I enjoy the pleasure these things bring, They calm my HOW TO CLEAN SAND DOLLARS In a bucket, mix 3/4 water with 1/4 bleach. place sand dollars in solution. remove in about an hour or after turning white. rinse with fresh water (thanks Dom!) place on flat surface. dry in sunlight. coat one side with solution of 1/2 Elmer’s Glue and 1/2 water. let dry onwax paper.
