Treet, a timber high-rise building in Bergen, Norway, which began construction in 2014, reached a height of 160 ft (49 m). The firm saw an opportunity to both save a piece of neighborhood history and design an imaginative, ambitiously sustainable retrofit. UNITED STATES COURTHOUSE, LOS ANGELES Figure 1 shows metered and modeled energy use for the courthouse. The new United States Courthouse in Los Angeles was awarded LEED® NC v2009 Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council on May 11, 2017. The team exceeded the Platinum threshold by seven credits, achieving 87 of the total 109 credits. NET ZERO - HPB MAGAZINE For buildings to withstand sea-level rise, coastline erosion, and hurricanes, they need to be built to work with nature, not against it. The Brock Environmental Center is a living example of how to minimize impact on the environment while being resilient to future challenges. The triple net zero building is the latest to receive Living Building CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPES, PITTSBURGH The Center for Sustainable Landscapes is a 24,350-square-foot education, research and administration facility at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh. The design team’s challenge was to meet an unprecedented palette of green standards while creating a facility that would serve a multitude of functions and integrate with the guest experience. SYSTEM-LEVEL KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS The panelists explored system-level key performance indicators (KPIs) and proposed ways to implement them within building energy management practices and policies. While performance diagnostics are most effective at the system level, KPIs presently are mostly available for the component- or whole-building-level, leaving a gap in system-levelKPIs.
