In Genesis chapter 17, God confirmed his covenant with Abraham by giving him the rite of circumcision, that is, brit milah (בְּרִית מִילָּה), a term that literally means “covenant (i.e., brit: בְּרִית) of the word” (i.e., milah: מִלָה). It is important to note that the rite of circumcision never was intended to effect the promise of God but only to attest toit.

JUNE 2021 – HEBREW FOR CHRISTIANS Torah portion Shelach-Lekha is a “heavy one” since it reports the “Sin of the Spies” (i.e., chet ha’meraglim: חטא המרגלים) and the subsequent failure of the people to trust that the Lord would take care for them. The people’s lack of bittachon (trust) in God is the most serious sin recorded in all the Torah, even more serious than the sin of the Golden Calf (i.e., chet haTHE LETTER CHET
The Hebrew Letter Chet. Note: Chet makes a light, scraping sound in the back of the throat while making an "h" sound.Chet is known as a guttural letter since it is pronounced in the back of the throat. other guttural letters are Aleph, Hey, and Ayin. Chet is sometimes transliterated as "h" which is why you sometimes see the word "Chanukah" spelled as "Hanukkah" in English. PHILOSOPHY – THEOLOGY – HEBREW FOR CHRISTIANS It is written in our Scriptures: “The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek; God is not in any of his thoughts” (Psalm 10:4). Indeed the willful denial of reality is an affront to heaven, contempt shown for the gift of life, and sacrilege of all that isworthy (Psalm 14).
INSEPARABLE PREPOSITIONS Prepositional Prefixes Like the definite article Hey and the conjunctive Vav, three additional letters can function as a prefixes to Hebrew words. These are Bet (meaning "in," "on," or "by"), Kaf (meaning "like," or "as"), and Lamed (meaning "to," or "for"). These prefixes are sometimes called "inseparable" prepositions because they cannot stand alone as independent prepositions. HEBREW FOR CHRISTIANS In our Torah portion for this Shabbat (i.e., parashat Terumah), God provides instructions about creating the great “Ark of the Covenant” (אֲרוֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָה).Note that the Hebrew text says “they shall make an ark of acacia wood” (Exod. 25:10). Unlike other furnishings of the Tabernacle that were made by Betzalel, the text uses the plural verb here: “they shall HEBREW BLESSINGS FOR TORAH STUDY IT IS CUSTOMARY to recite a blessing before engaging in Talmud Torah - the study of the Torah. In the following blessing, note that the word la'asok means to engage, or to immerse oneself (it comes from the Hebrew root which means "busy"). This blessing, then is about 'busying' ourselves with the study of Torah, taking heed of God's instruction for our lives:PSALM 2 IN HEBREW

A DYING WORLD
People who have DIED since this page loaded: The vision for this web site is to provide a resource for the Church regarding its rich Hebraic heritage by promoting Jewish literacy among all those who claim Jesus Christ as their Lord. I believe this is important today for many reasons, but especially because many people in the church today are unaware of the inherent Jewishness of their heritage, and sadly this reflects in many misinterpretations regarding the Scriptures. Remember: Jesus was (and is) a Jew, and to be a follower of Him implies learning about the Jewish people -- their culture, their language, and their way of understanding the Scriptures. Moreover, in the _olam habah,_ the world to come, we will all give homage to a Jewish Lord and Jewish Savior! Why not get a head start and begin learning the "language of the kingdom?" Studying biblical Hebrew and Jewish heritage will give you the correct context for reading the _B'rit Chadashah_ (New Testament) by equipping you to comprehend the implications of the _Torah,_ _Nevi'im,_ and _Ketuvim_ (the _Tanakh_ or Old Testament). You will begin to better understand the Hebraic mindset that informs the New Testament and to avoid exegetical errors that distort the original intent of the authors of the Holy Scriptures.
