_ _**MASKS OVER MOUTH & NOSE PLUS SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED IN OUR THEATER UNTIL NEW MEXICO ACHIEVES 60% FULL VACCINATION RATE - THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING, PATIENCE & COOPERATION WITH ALL OFTHIS!**_
Executive Produced by Joaquin Phoenix - Experiential cinema in its purest form, GUNDA chronicles the unfiltered lives of a mother pig, a flock of chickens, and a herd of cows with masterful intimacy. Using stark, transcendent black and white cinematography and the farm's ambient soundtrack, director Victor Kossakowsky invites the audience to slow down and experience life as his subjects do, taking in their world with a magical patience and an other worldly perspective. GUNDA asks us to meditate on the mystery of animal consciousness, and reckon with the role humanity plays in it. _"GUNDA is pure cinema... Itâs jaw dropping images and sound put together with the best ensemble cast and you have something more like a potion than a movie.â - filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (THE PHANTOM THREAD, PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, THERE WILL BE BLOOD)_ _"A piece of wondrously immersive filmmaking that invites us to slow down and consider life at its most elemental and - though this may sound corny in reference to a farm animal - humane." - Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post_ _"You'll feel like you're making new best friends when you watch "Gunda." It's as pure a farmyard experience as a movie can conceivably be." -Â __Bob Strauss, San Francisco Chronicle_ _Nothing speaks except the wonders of quaint farm life in a sparkling, black-and-white documentary named after the giant sow that steals the show along with her ever-appealing piglets." - John Urbancich,JMuvies_
_"Viktor Kosakovskiy might be one of the most engrossing filmmakers you've never heard of." - Tom Meek, Cambridge Day_ _"It is as unique as it is welcome." - Diane Carson, KDHX (St. Louis)_View Trailer

_ **MASKS OVER MOUTH & NOSE PLUS SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIRED IN OUR THEATER UNTIL NEW MEXICO ACHIEVES 60% FULL VACCINATION RATE - THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING, PATIENCE & COOPERATION WITH ALL OF THIS!** WINNER OF THE FIPRESCI PRIZE AND THE SILVER BERLIN BEAR AT THE BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL! Starring Paula Beer, Franz Rogowski, Maryam Zaree, Jacob Matschenz, Anne Ratte-Polle - Christian Petzold (PHOENIX, TRANSIT) boldly reimagines the ancient myth of Undine in this suspenseful tale of romance and betrayal in modern day Berlin. Undine (Paula Beer) works as a historian lecturing on Berlinâs urban development. But when the man she loves leaves her, the myth catches up with her. Undine has to kill the man who betrays her and return to the water. Will Undine defy fate when she meets a diver (Franz Rogowski) offering her a chance atnew love?
_"There's just enough magic and mystery to tease out a supernatural reading of the film, though Petzold encourages viewers to find pleasure in puzzling out his femme fatale for themselves." - Simran Hans, Observer (UK)_ _"An intriguing romance that plays pleasing games with the viewer until the final ambiguous scene." - Tara Brady, Irish Times_ _"The story's ripples are often heart-stopping, adding unexpected emotions to a narrative that holds us in its grip, refusing to take an expected route." - Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall_ _"A great romantic European drama (with a twist), centred around two compelling performances." - Fiona Underhill, JumpCut Online_View Trailer

_"Among the great American films of the sixties." - Richard Brody, TheNew Yorker__Â __Â _
_A GREAT OPPORTUNITY IN THE TIMES WE'RE IN TO SUPPORT BOTH YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CINEMA AS WELL AS GREAT INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING!_ Melvin Van Peebles' edgy, angsty, romantic first feature could never have been made in America. Unable to break into a segregated Hollywood, Van Peebles decamped to France, taught himself the language and wrote a number of books in French, one of which, La permission, would become his stylistically innovative filmmaking debut. Turner (Harry Baird), an African American soldier stationed in France is granted a promotion and a three-day leave from base by his casually racist commanding officer and heads to Paris, where he finds whirlwind romance with a white woman (Nicole Berger)âbut what happens to their love when his furlough is over? Channeling the brash exuberance of the French New Wave, Van Peebles creates an exploration of the psychology of an interracial relationship as well as a commentary on France's contradictory attitudes about race that is playful, sarcastic, and stingingly subversive by turns, and that laid the foundation for the scorched-earth cinematic revolution he would unleash just a few years later with Sweet Sweetbackâs Baadasssss Song. _"Mr. Van Peeblesâs best-known film is Sweet Sweetbackâs Baadasssss Song .. but his disarmingly romantic debut feature deserves a place in the canon.â - A.O. Scott, The New York Times_ _âVan Peeblesâ most stylistically assured and emotionally satisfying film.â - Brandon Harris, Hammer to Nail_View Trailer

_PART OF THE SCREENING FEES GOES TO HELPING US ALONG DURING OUR PANDEMIC TIMES OF LIMITED CAPACITY! _ _A GREAT OPPORTUNITY IN THE TIMES WE'RE IN TO SUPPORT BOTH YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CINEMA AS WELL AS GREAT INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING!_ Narrated by Weird Al Yankovic, TINY TIM: KING FOR A DAY is a biographical doc about a musician who is not only well known for hits such as Tip Toe Through The Tulips but for his trail blazing personae that paved the way for other rock stars such as David Bowie, Prince, Iggy Pop and Boy George. An outcast from a young age, Herbert Kharyâs rise to stardom as Tiny Tim is the ultimate fairytale. Considered a freak by many of his peers, Tiny Tim left no one unaffected. His wedding on the Carson Show was watched by over 45 million Americans and his queer personality have been celebrated by the likes of Bob Dylan, Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga. There were plans and hopes that Tiny Tim would be a lasting star, not only a novelty act but one man ruined these plans: Tiny Tim. The exclusive access to Tiny Timâs intense diaries, the playful and powerful animations and the interviews with his family and friends, makes this film not only a captivating portrait of one of the oddest stars the world has ever seen, but also a psychological drama, examining the borderline between insanity and geniality. _"From the Tiny Tim diary excerpts (read by "Weird Al" Yankovic) to the sometimes startling video of the former star eking out a living in his later years, "King for a Day" is never less than riveting." - Noel Murray, Los Angeles Times_ _"A compelling and very entertaining portrait of a showbiz original" - Roger Moore, Movie Nation_ _"There was never anything like Tiny Tim - not before or since - and, as the film makes clear, his character was anything but an act." - Joel Selvin, San Francisco Chronicle_View Trailer

The next generation of Romanian filmmaking talent finally arrives in the U.S. with Paul Negoescu and Two Lottery Tickets. A buddy comedy produced on a shoestring budget, starring three of the most recognizable faces in Romanian movies, Two Lottery Tickets suggests Pineapple Express by way of Abbas Kiarostami. A winsome, riotous comedy of errors, Negoescuâs second feature is an audience-friendly social satire which merges a stonerâs shaggy-dog story with the sophisticated, intensely realistic style that has made the Romanian cinema one of the most popular national film movements inthe world.
Police, Adjective star Drago? Bucur plays against type as Sile, an irresponsible carpenter who spends most afternoons at the pub, placing small bets, racking up a huge tab, and buying lottery tickets. He convinces his drinking buddy Dinel (Dorian Bogu??), whose wife has just left him for an Italian, to play the lottery one hot afternoon. Borrowing a few Euros from Pompiliu (Alexandru Papadopol), the local conspiracy theorist, Dinel plays the numbers on the off chance that a win would bring back his wife. After two petty criminals jack his fanny-pack and the winning ticket, the three guys spend what little money they have tracking down the thieves. _A GREAT OPPORTUNITY IN THE TIMES WE'RE IN TO SUPPORT BOTH YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CINEMA AS WELL AS GREAT INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING!_ When punk rock erupted in Washington DC, it was a mighty convergence of powerful music, friendships, and clear minds. This film is the first to explore the incredible challenges that this subculture faced when it took root in the Nationâs Capital in the late 1970âs. Punk the Capital situates DC punk within the larger narratives of rock n' roll, working as a powerful multi-layered story for both fans and non-fans of punk rock. Featuring musicians such as Bad Brains, Henry Rollins, and Ian MacKaye, this film dives deep into the ideas and sounds from this transformative music scene which continues to be influential culturally and politically around the world. _â...a love letter to the city's punk scene.â â WashingtonPost _

Dir. Jeffrey Wolf - 2020 - 75m - No Matinees _AVAILABLE Â IN OUR "VIRTUAL CINEMA" ONLINE BY CLICKING HERE!_
This illuminating documentary explores the life of a unique American artist, a man with a remarkable and unlikely biography. Bill Traylor was born into slavery in 1853 on a cotton plantation in rural Alabama. After the Civil War, Traylor continued to farm the land as a sharecropper until the late 1920s. Aging and alone, he moved to Montgomery and worked odd jobs in the thriving segregated black neighborhood. A decade later, in his late 80s, Traylor became homeless and started to draw and paint, both memories from plantation days and scenes of a radically changing urban culture. Having witnessed profound social and political change during a life spanning slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow segregation, and the Great Migration, Traylor devised his own visual language to translate an oral culture into something original, powerful, and culturally rooted. He made well over a thousand drawings and paintings between 1939-1942. This colorful, strikingly modernist work eventually led him to be recognized as one of Americaâs greatest self-taught artists and the subject of a Smithsonian retrospective. Using historical and cultural context, Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts brings the spirit and mystery of Traylorâs incomparable art to life. Making dramatic and surprising use of tap dance and evocative period music, the film balances archival photographs and footage, insightful perspectives from his descendents, and Traylorâs striking drawings and paintings to reveal one of Americaâs most prominent artists to awide audience.
_âAn extraordinary artistâŠTraylorâs pictures stamp themselves on your eye and mind⊠(nothing) impaired the humor and subtlety of his imagination. Traylorâs art generates a presence at once mighty and fugitive, forever just around the corner of being understood.â - Peter Schjeldahl, The New Yorker_ _"Bill Traylorâs art speaks to the universal language of humanity-a cry for justice, dignity and resilience." - Andrew J. _*WINNER: WORLD CINEMA DRAMATIC SPECIAL JURY AWARD, SUNDANCE FILMFESTIVAL_
Berlin-based Mosotho filmmaker Lemohang Jeremiah Moseseâs devastating and hypnotic This Is Not a Burial, Itâs a Resurrection is already one of the most esteemed African films ever to hit the international festival circuit, earning the Special Jury Prize for Visionary Filmmaking at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, before taking home Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Cinematography at Africaâs Academy Awards. Deserving comparison with the work of Pedro Costa, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Souleymane CissĂ©, This Is Not a Burial marks the introduction of a major filmmaker and the final powerhouse performance of a remarkableactress.
The late Mary Twala Mhlongo, recognizable from BeyoncĂ©âs blockbuster musical Black Is King, gives a heartbreaking career-capping performance as Mantoa, an 80-year-old woman who has lived in a small Lesotho village for her entire life. While preparing for her own death, she receives word of an accident that has killed her only son, leaving her entirely alone, with only the respect of her community, the traditions of her ancestors, and the courage of her convictions. When her community must relocate to make way for a nearby dam which would flood her familyâs burial ground, Mantoa draws a line in the sand and becomes an unlikely political and spiritualleader.
Cryptic, impressionistic, and informed by magical realist literature, This Is Not a Burial, Itâs a Resurrection contains some of the most striking visual compositions in contemporary cinema, all the more impressive considering this is the first feature-length film for both cinematographer Pierre de Villiers and production designer Leila Walter. The cumulative power of Mantoaâs sacrificial crusade, Mhlongoâs earthy performance, and Moseseâs visionary artistry announce an unmistakable landmark in African cinema. _âA haunted, unsentimental paean to land and its physical containment of community and ancestry...toggling between earthy naturalism and suspended dream atmospherics...draws equal inspiration from indigenous folklore and the rigorous aesthetics of Pedro Costa and Abderrahmane Sissako.â Â - Variety_ _âEvery once in awhile, a movie reinvigorates oneâs faith in the artistic capacity of an entire medium through pure intuition of form and mastery of intent. 'This Is Not A Burial, Itâs A Resurrection', is that rare gem of a film that falls into an unclassifiable category.â - The Playlistâ_ _A masterful tale of grief, belonging and defiance. Mosese has crafted a poetic ode to cinema that is breathtaking in its beauty and gut-wrenching in its sombre themes.â - New Frame_View Trailer

A decorated World War 2 veteran named Tom Williams (Fred Schwab) meets some of his greatest challenges as he nears the end of a long life in a retirement home. He and his visiting son, Paul (Paul Ingles), find there are powerful lessons still to learn about themselves and each other as they both steer through the difficult days. This first feature-length film by Albuquerque's Paul Ingles is based on the final months of Inglesâ own fatherâs life. John S. Ingles was widowed at the age of 88 when his wife of 60 years passed away, leaving him to finish out lifeâs ride alone in an assisted living community in North Carolina. In his mildly fictionalized script, Paul Inglesâ father becomes Tom Williams (played by Fred Schwab), Paul Ingles plays the middle son Paul Williams and his older brother and younger sister take on new names in the film too as Steve and Jane (played by Paul Venable and Janelle Lovin Mancha). The film tracks the 9 months from the fall of 2015 to the summer of 2016 when Tom, now 93, begins to see his health slide after some fainting spells at the retirement home and subsequent visits to thehospital.
The three adult kids, spread out across the country, have differing opinions about whether to place their dad in hospice care with 24/7 Home Health support, something Tom is adamantly resisting. A long-planned trip to Australia for Jane and her family forces a decision on his care. Viewers see the parallel conversational paths of Paul meeting with his Albuquerque therapist Don Daley (played by Gregory Nye), and Paul having a series of heart-to-heart talks with his father. âIâve been telling folks that the film is a cross between the very talky cult classic My Dinner with Andree and Tuesdays with Morrie - another film about the sharing of life-lessons between generations,â says Ingles.  The film was shot almost completely in Albuquerque with over 80 local actors and extras.View Trailer

The latest deranged delight by French absurdist Quentin Dupieux, Keep An Eye Out is a breakneck-paced cop comedy that packs more laughs into its 73 breezy minutes than some filmmakers manage in their entirecareers.
Belgian funnyman BenoĂźt Poelvoorde (Man Bites Dog) is Commissaire Buran, a good, bad cop interrogating Fugain, (GrĂ©goire Ludig), an average Joe who discovered a dead body outside his apartment building. As the film begins, Fugain must, on an empty stomach, explain how and why he happened to leave home seven times in one night before coming across a corpse in a puddle of blood. Since heâs the investigationâs only suspect, Fugainâs anxiety is already sky-high when Buran leaves him alone with Philippe, a one-eyed rookie cop with bizarre speech patterns and a few minutes to live. Bloody, batshit hijinks ensue, and before long, weâre in Buñuel territory. Between the opening sequence, when a man in just red briefs conducts a philharmonic orchestra in the open air, and the triple-meta denouement, Dupieuxâs whip-smart script disregards audience expectations, the fourth wall, and the laws of time and space. Youâll never look at a protractor or an oyster the same way again. _"Ever-unpredictable...a film that is constantly in mesmerizing and darkly comedic flux." - Indiewire_ _"Another absurdist gem from Quentin Dupieux. 'Keep An Eye Out' will have you howling in your seat." - Collider_ _âEqual parts Michel Gondry, Tex Avery and the Coen brothers. Within days, whole industries were shuttered and communities around the world were sheltering in place; life as we knew it changed irrevocably. At home in New Mexico, Brent Morris put out a call to action to friends in the film industry. A core group of nine responded and banded together to create personal, professional short films with something to say about the human condition in this unparalleled time. A vow of safety was taken by all and the films were written, shot and edited with that as a paramount concern. On this one-year anniversary, we present the resulting tales: A filmmaker volunteering for Wheels on Meals at the onset of the pandemic begins to wonder if his delivery route runs through an alternate dimension; a young woman grapples with the rising tide of anti-Asian xenophobia; a family enlivens their lockdown with a Melville-inspired home cooking challenge; a Native woman attempts to deliver her first baby by doula during the pandemic; and an isolated mental health worker tries to take a break from her own house during a day of remote therapy sessions.View Trailer

Subtly set in a near future when space travel has begun, the film follows five residents in the town. Â Anchored in observational documentary footage filmed over three years, the film weaves together archival footage, experimental virtual reality worlds, an improvised score by Bill Frisell and a speculative premise based on current events â a launch site for commercial space travel outside of town. Â A MAJORITY OF THE VIEWING FEES WILL BE DONATED TO THE LOCAL CHAPTER OF BLACK LIVES MATTER!_ Northend Stories Pt 1: the community. Waterloo, Iowa, has been home to an african american community ever since the great migration north in the early part of the last century. Many were attracted by jobs which had opened up with the railroads, a packing plant and the John Deere Tractor Works. At first most of the black population lived in a close knit community near the railroad. A closeness which is explored in interviews along with questions about how it felt to experience discrimination and prejudice. Filmed in 2019, the Black Lives Matter events after the George Floyd murder are referenced because the Waterloo reaction has been distinct due to its history of calling out racism and discrimination. There are now a black mayor, a chief of police and a representative in the statelegislature.
Northend Stories Pt 2: the Cosby Center. Jesse Cosby came to Waterloo, Iowa, after the 2nd World War and found his vocation as a community organizer, choir director and square dance caller. As a black man from Alabama in the tight knit african american community of Waterloo and at a time when segregation was the unspoken rule he went beyond boundaries, setting an example for future generations of what community could be. His a cappella choir was popular throughout the area and he was in great demand as a square dance caller with what were all white dance clubs and churches. His dream of a community center in Waterloo's african american neighborhood became an ongoing reality after his untimely death fromcancer.

JUST CLICK ON THE "CHOOSE THEATER DROP DOWN MENU" AND LOOK FOR THE "ALBUQUERQUE NM - GUILD CINEMA" OPTION! _ Defying the haze of midlife, two friends seize an unlikely opportunity to reinvent their lives, quitting their jobs to restore a bowling alley and serve the âworldâs greatest pizza.â Divorced bartender Bobby Hoffman (James LeGros), living alone in the Airstream trailer inherited from his late mother, has drifted into a sleepy eddy.  Life passing him by and struggling to complete his graphic-novel opus, Bobby comes to believe his life is doomed â just a meaningless simulation written by some alien civilization. On Bobbyâs birthday, when his old high school buddy Carlos (Jesse Borrego) tries to shake him awake with a bold new business venture, shadows rear up from the past and threaten to crush him. Does positive thinking still work at mid-life?  Can teamwork and friendship improve the odds for success of âthe stupidest idea everâ?  Irresistible Tanya (Lisa Edelstein) stirs Bobbyâs bravery until his passion and dreams begin to breathe again.  Enthusiastic Carlos (âyou arenât visualizing it!â) and his spirited, entrepreneurial family will not give up.  Finally, when Bobbyâs comically awful boss, Kyle, (Diedrich Bader) has shrunk his piece of the pie to crust, playing it safe just doesnât feel safe anymore. The road out of hiding and becoming a business owner, though at times exhilarating, isnât easy.  Snarky bowling rival, Al, (Kevin Corrigan) pins him around every corner, while slick venture capitalist, Mario, (Reynaldo Gallegos), captures Tanyaâs eye and hopelessly intimidates Bobby with his worldly charm.  When trouble and setbacks rear up, Bobby must decide whether he owns his life, or is merely a chump for his comic book aliensâ entertainment. Finally, itâs his choice.  The film takes a comedic look at the existential crisis many face when trying to find meaning and relevancy at mid-life. Despite controlling bosses, dead-end jobs, and broken relationships, the two leads stumble out of hibernation with courage and resilience, called to what may be their last chance to resurrect heartfelt dreams.View Trailer

The follow-up to Oskoueiâs critically acclaimed Starless Dreams (2016), Sunless Shadows takes another look at the lives of teenage girls in an Iranian juvenile detention center. But this time the focus is narrowed: each of the filmâs principal subjects is serving time for the murder of a male family member. One by one, Oskouei invites them to go into a room alone, push the red button on the camera and address their accomplices or their victims. With this new confessional approach combined with the ever-deepening relationships he has with his subjects, Oskouei presents a picture of the disenfranchised in this aggressively male-dominated society and of the prison that is their shelter from it. _"Quietly but pointedly interrogates the notion of victimhood, while tacitly letting a damning essay on Iranian gender politics and hierarchies emerge through the words of subjects." -Guy Lodge,Variety_

But when shreds of her past begin to surface, Jake takes steps to ensure he will not lose the love of his life... _"CRITIC'S PICK! Shot in Morocco between searing sunlight and pillowy dunes, 'You Go to My Head' is a mysteriously elusive romance whose location is almost overpoweringly tangible. (The sensual cinematography is by Stijn Grupping.) HacĂšne Larbi's eerily dissonant score is as perfectly spare as the film's emotions, yet it imbues Kitty's situation with a mesmerizing, inchoate danger. The movie is clamoring to erupt into melodrama, but de Clercq, content to wallow in teasingly luscious and enigmatically staged images, happily isn't listening." Â -Jeannette Catsoulis, THE NEW YORK TIMES_ _"VISUALLY STUNNING! From its desert landscapes to its principal setting of an architecturally distinguished house to its extremely photogenic lead actress, every frame of the psychological thriller proves visually stunning to behold...an atmospheric mood piece akin to Kubrick or Antonioni. Delfine Bafort delivers a mesmerizing, fascinatingly enigmatic turn that keeps us fully invested in her character's fate. By the time 'You Go To My Head' reaches its surprising conclusion, you will have become thoroughly caught in its mysterious grip." Â -Frank Scheck, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER_ _"SUSPENSEFUL AND SENSUAL! Faint but discernible echoes of Hitchcock and Antonioni abound throughout 'You Go to My Head,' a coolly affected yet ineffably captivating drama that builds interest and sustains tension by teasingly frustrating audience expectations at almost every turn. This stylishly drama, exquisitely photographed by Stijn Grupping, gains emotional resonance from impressive lead performances by Delfine Bafort and Svetozar Cvetkovic. The deft interplay between the two is by turns suspenseful and sensual" Â - Joe Leydon, VARIETY_ _"HITCHCOCKIAN! 'You Go to My Head' is a warped and lush tale of obsession, deception, and romance. Stijn Grupping's stellar cinematography beautifully captures the Moroccan Sahara Desert setting...it is a breathtaking, yet deadly location. With a hypnotic use of color, light, and sound, the film operates like an unworldly dream." Â - Andrew Stover, FILM THREAT_ _"Itâs not hard to see why Dimitri de Clercqâs first solo feature as a director has become a film festival favourite: You Go To My Head is a psychological thriller that increasingly grips and unsettles...and also benefits from gorgeous Moroccan landscapes lovingly shot, and spectacular architecture." Â -Andrew Nickolds, TakeOne (UK)_
_"With echoes to the cinema of Antonioni, Hitchcock and Kubrick, de Clercq seeks and manages to build an eminently visual and sensorial experience." Â -Laura Riera Forteza, Peli o Manta (Spain)_ _"What stays on your mind is the filmâs imagery. Painted like an abstract work of art on a huge canvas, every scene stands out like the perfect visual form." Â -Shilpa Sebastian R, The Hindu (India)_ _FOUR STAR REVIEW "A film has to move me. And that is exactly what You Go To My Head did. I loved this film, and will go to the ends of the earth to proclaim such sentiments. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy gave young Americans the opportunity to serve their country in a new way by forming the Peace Corps. Since then, more than 200,000 of them have traveled to more than 60 countries to carry out the organizationâs mission of international cooperation. Americansâyoung and old alikeâstill want to serve their country; current volunteers work at the forefront of some of the most pressing issues facing the global community. Yet the agency has struggled to remain relevant amid sociopolitical change. More than once it had to fight for its very existence, and nowâbetween COVID, a rise in nationalist sentiment and deep cuts to governmental-agency budgetsâthe Peace Corps is again confronting a crisis of identity: What role should it play around the world? _"Puts a human face on the Peace Corps - and makes sense of its history of idealism, improvisation, politics, and at times its failings. It is the most coherent and satisfying documentary I know of the Peace Corps, and I can't imagine a better one. Featuring a supporting cast of Hong regulars including Kwon Haehyo, Yu Junsang and Kim Euisung, YOURSELF AND YOURS is a pleasing puzzle full of mistaken identity, excessive drinking and lots of he-said, she-said. As the rumors pile up, Hong asks: In a relationship, how important is it to know everything? _âImmensely satisfying⊠A wise and gently absurdist allegory about how best to approach relationships.â â Scott Tobias, Variety_ _"An essential chapter in the big book of Hong... For those who havenât yet been introduced to this singularly idiosyncratic Korean auteur, Yourself and Yours is as good a place to start as any.â - David Ehrlich, IndieWire_View Trailer

Dir. Mark Cousins - 2015 - 71m _ONLINE AT-HOME VIEWING LINK AVAILABLE NOW BY CLICKING HERE! Â _
_PART OF THE SCREENING FEE WILL GO TO HELP US ALONG DURING THESE CHALLENGING TIMES OF TEMPORARY CLOSURE!_ 75 years ago the bombing of Hiroshima showed the appalling destructive power of the atomic bomb. Â Mark Cousinsâ bold new documentary looks at death in the atomic age, but life too. Â Using only archive film and a new musical score by the band Mogwai, Â Atomic shows us an impressionistic kaleidoscope of our nuclear times: protest marches, Cold War sabre rattling, Chernobyl and Fukishima, but also the sublime beauty of the atomic world, and how X Rays and MRI scans have improved human lives. Â The nuclear age has been a nightmare, but dreamliketoo.
_"Ambitious, distinctive work that captures the sheer strangeness of the Atomic age; a feast for the mind and the senses." - PJ Nabarro, One Room With A View_View Trailer
BEYOND THE VISIBLE: HILMA AF KLINT - AVAILABLE NOW IN OUR AT-HOME 'VIRTUAL CINEMA' SAFE VIEWING!May 31 to Jun 30
Dir. Halina Dyrschka - 2020 - 93m _ONLINE VIEWING LINK AVAILABLE NOW BY CLICKING HERE!_
_PART OF YOUR VIEWING FEE WILL GO TO BOTH US THE MOVIE THEATER AND THE DISTRIBUTOR!  A GREAT OPPORTUNITY IN THE TIMES WE'RE IN TO SUPPORT BOTH YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CINEMA AS WELL AS GREAT INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING!_ Hilma af Klint was an abstract artist before the term existed, a visionary, trailblazing figure who, inspired by spiritualism, modern science, and the riches of the natural world around her, began in 1906 to reel out a series of huge, colorful, sensual, strange works without precedent in painting. The subject of a recent smash retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum (with over 600,000 attendees), af Klint was for years an all-but-forgotten figure in art historical discourse, before her long-delayed rediscovery. Director Halina Dryschkaâs dazzling, course correcting documentary describes not only the life and craft of af Klint, but also the process of her mischaracterization and erasure by both a patriarchal narrative of artistic progress and capitalistic determination of artistic value. _âBristles with the excitement of discovery and also with the impatience that recognition has taken so long. It refreshes the eyes and the mind.â â A.O. Scott, THE NEW YORK TIMES_ _âONE OF THE BEST FILMS IâVE SEEN ABOUT FINE ART. _ _It casts an entrancing spell that allows the staggering depth of its subjectâs work to consume us.â â Matt Fagerholm, ROGEREBERT.com_ _âGORGEOUS... GOES FAR DEEPER THAN THE SURFACE..._ _making an airtight case for af Klintâs ascension _ _to an elevated place in art history.â â Shana Nys Dambrot, LAWEEKLY_
_âAn illuminating articulation of the eraâs social and cultural complexities. Itâs more than worth a lookânot only for its careful illumination of the artistâs biography, plus an abundant representation of her luminous paintings, but for the way in which it exposes the obstacles af Klint and her legacy faced.â â Christopher Knight, LOS ANGELES TIMES_ _âOne of the 8 Best Movies You Can Watch at Home.â â AlissaWilkinson, VOX.com_
_âAn exhilarating chance to catch up with a brilliant artist's inventions. It's an eloquent contribution to af Klint's rediscovery, which began four decades after her 1944 death. It's also a cogent argument for why that rediscovery impels nothing less than a rewriting of art history.â â Sheri Linden, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER_ _âHer work holds a special place in my heart, it feels like magic. Beyond The Visible is a BEAUTIFUL documentary about her life and work.â Actress DAKOTA JOHNSON on Instagram_View Trailer

_PART OF THE SCREENING FEE GOES TO HELPING US ALONG DURING THESE CHALLENGING TIMES! Â THANK YOU KIM STIM & Â MIKA KIMOTO!__!_ EARTH was filmed at seven locations that humans have transformed on a grand scale: Entire mountains being moved in California, a tunnel being sliced through rock at the Brenner Pass, an open-cast mine in Hungary, a marble quarry in Italy, a copper mine in Spain, the salt mine used to store radioactive waste in WolfenbĂŒttel and a tar sands landscape in Canada. Initially shown from above as abstract paintings, these terrains are subsequently explored on the ground: The film weaves together observational footage of machines in operation with conversations with the workers. Alongside statements on work processes, environmental damage and technological change, EARTH makes this constructed world visible in unique fashion by subtly paring it down: the piles of grey matter, hills and mountains. The blackness and the cracks. The sandy landscapes, criss-crossed by an array of mechanical devices that scuttle about like caterpillars or worms. The dimensions are gigantic, the proportions out of control; the world has slipped from humanityâs grasp. âThere is always a bigger machine, a bigger engine and when all fails there is dynamite. We always win,â boast a quarry worker. Or do we? _"Aesthetically exhilarating and spectacular!â â Tony Pipolo,Artforum_

_**A GREAT WAY TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT CINEMA LIKE US AND INDEPENDENT FILMMAKING!!**_ Mara and Jo, in their twenties, have been close friends since middle school. Jo, the more outgoing figure, is a social worker who runs through a series of brief but intense relationships. Mara, a less splashy personality than Jo, bounces among teacher aide jobs while trying to land a position in elementary education, and writes fiction in her spare time. She too has a transient romantic life, though she seems to settle down after meeting Adam, a mild-mannered software developer. It soon becomes apparent that Jo, despite her intellectual gifts, is unreliable in her professional life, losing and acquiring jobs at a troubling rate. Substance abuse may be responsible for Joâs instability⊠but some observers suspect a deeper problem. Over the course of a decade, the more stable Mara sometimes tries to help, sometimes backs away to preserve herself, but never leaves behind her powerful childhood connection with Jo. _âA wonderful, subtly devastating film from a voice in American independent cinema that will hopefully become better known." â Ian Mantgani, Little White Lies_ _âTwo outstanding performances... Medel is marvelous, utterly engaging. Kuhling is a knockout." â Neil Young, Hollywood Reporte_r _"With the Oscars expanding its horizons this year, itâll be interesting to see if anyone gives worthier performances than Tallie Medel as a frustrated teacherâs aid, and Norma Kuhling as her magnetic but unstable childhood friend." â David Ehrlich, Indiewire_ _âA bittersweet breakup movie. _**__PART OF THE SCREENING FEE GOES TO HELPING US ALONG DURING THESE CHALLENGING TIMES!  A GREAT WAY TO SUPPORT LOCAL CINEMAS AND GREAT INTERNATIONAL FILMMAKING TOO !_ Just before the French Revolution, in a forest outside Berlin, a band of libertines expelled from the court of Louis XVI rendezvous with the legendary German seducer and freethinker, the Duc de Walchen (Helmut Berger), to convince him to join in their mission: the rejection of authority and all moral boundaries. What begins as an evening of strategizing on the proliferation of libertinage, descends into a Sadean night of pansexual one-upmanship. LibertĂ© is a singular cinematic experience only Albert Serra could deliver, a film in which increasingly dramatic acts of pain and pleasure unfold in counterpoint to cinematographer Artur Tortâs luminous images of moonlit sylvan spaces. From the Hungarian auteur Istvan Szabo - The 1981 Academy Award-winning (Best Foreign Language Film) Mephisto concerns a passionate, but struggling actor (Klaus Maria Brandauer) who remains in Germany during the Nazi regime and reaps the rewards of this Faustian pact by finally achieving the stardom he has long craved. _"There has been precious little incisive appraisal of the precise seductive allure of fascism, and certainly none to match that offered by Szabó's remarkable film." - Paul Taylor, Time Out (London)_ _"This film is a work of art. In 1956, four years before Jane Goodall ventured into the world of chimpanzees and seven years before Dian Fossey left to work with mountain gorillas, 23-year-old biologist Anne Innis Dagg made an unprecedented solo journey to South Africa to study giraffes in the wild.  In THE WOMAN WHO LOVES GIRAFFES Anne (now 85) retraces her steps, and with letters and stunning, original 16mm film footage offers an intimate window into her life as a young woman, juxtaposed with a first hand look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today. Both the worldâs first âgiraffologistâ, whose research findings ultimately became the foundation for many scientists following in her footsteps, and the species she loves have each experienced triumphs as well as setbacks. THE WOMAN WHO LOVES GIRAFFES gives us a moving perspective on both. _"Alison Reid deserves high praise for fine storytelling, combining ecology and social-justice issues while focusing on a woman ahead of her times, whose ambitions were thwarted by institutional sexism." - Bruce DeMara, Toronto Star_ _"The film is a triumph and inspiration." - Steven Prokopy, ThirdCoast Review_
