GEOAMERICAS 2020
GeoAmericas 2020 – It will be awesome! by IGS , April 27, 2020. Together, in October we’ll celebrate the overcoming of this adversity in Rio de Janeiro. Everything is already set up to make the Conference a memorable one. April 26th was the date initially set. for the opening of GeoAmericas 2020. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING The Conference Geotechnical Engineering Education 2020 (GEE2020) is organized by the Technical Committee TC306 for Geo-Engineering Education of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (), under the auspices of the Hellenic SSMGE and the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens.. The International Conferences on IGS SUSTAINABILITY PAPER FEATURES IN SPECIAL EDITION A paper co-authored by members of the IGS Technical and Sustainability Committees features in an open-access online journal. ‘ Sustainable Use of Geosynthetics in Dykes ’ by Pietro Rimoldi, Jonathan Shamrock, Jacek Kawalec and Nathalie Touze will be published on the MDPI website from this Friday (April 23). The paper features in a special issue of the journal Sustainability called CASE STUDIES: SECURING CAVITIES AREA BY A VERY HIGH Problematic The sinkholes present a major problem in roads construction and urban development. The classical solutions used to limit the risk of cavities collapse are: filling of the void, construction of concrete bridges across the cavity areas, reinforcement by masonry piles, etc. GEOSYNTHETICS IN PAVEMENT ENGINEERING The efficiency of the geosynthetics as reinforcement in a pavement can be estimated by the Efficiency Factor (E): u r N N E = Nr = number of load repetitions up to failure for the reinforced pavement. Nu = number of load repetitions up to failure for the unreinforced pavement. Available data in the literature present values of E as high as 16, which shows that* Home
