Open City is a celebration of undervalued, sweet, free things to do in Christchurch. It might be a good climbing tree in the Botanic Gardens, a quirky piece of street art or a great place for a picnic. These little secrets and more have been suggested by locals and visitors and can be accessed by visiting the Open City vending machine; aPALLET PAVILION

Putting profit into projects in the neighbourhood. Conceived and created by Gap Filler, GOOD SPOT is a central city car park in Fletcher Living’s new One Central neighbourhood. It is but one of the many projects Gap Filler has conceived and delivered as part of its Placemaking at One Central programme in partnership with FletcherLiving.
PLACEMAKING AT ONE CENTRAL Placemaking at One Central became a reality in November 2017, with the first projects going live, and will run until at least November 2021. The final East Frame apartments are due to begin construction in 2022. Gap Filler has been experimenting for a long time now with ways our (and other) temporary projects can have long-term community outcomes.CHCHCHANGES
Rapid, continual change. Christchurch is a city undergoing rapid, continual change, with the majority of the central city experiencing a major facelift over the past ten years. This ChchChanges project consists of a tour of frames located specifically to highlight various places, rebuild success stories, sites awaiting development or tofocus
WELCOME TO LILLLYDALE In 2017, Gap Filler was engaged to develop a process and mentor local artists to deliver a placemaking arts project in Yarra Ranges, Victoria. We ended up taking four trips over five months to the town of Lilydale (one L) in the Shire of Lillydale (two Ls) and helping to develop a two-month long project called Welcome to Lilllydale (threeLs).
THINK DIFFERENTLY BOOK EXCHANGE The Think Differently book exchange was suggested by librarian Sarah Gallagher in winter of 2011 in reponse to lack of a central city libaray due to the earthquakes. Together with Sarah, Gap Filler worked to develop the concept, locate a site and realise the project.DAMIAN DOYLE

We ended up taking four trips over five months to the town of Lilydale (one L) in the Shire of Lillydale (two Ls) and helping to develop a two-month long project called Welcome to Lilllydale (threeLs).

Just add spectacle. The Grandstandium was created in 2015 for the Festival of Transitional Architecture in October of that year. Designed concurrently with our Retrosports Facility, the Grandstandium was designed to be a useful amenity as well as critique the Government’s stadium anchor project.DAMIAN DOYLE

Inconvenience is a constraint and constraints make for interesting responses. This project took over an empty shop in Cathedral Junction in central Christchurch for seven weeks. Responding to a brief, seven different shops came to life each week across the duration of the project all exploring the idea of convenience.CHCHCHANGES
Rapid, continual change. Christchurch is a city undergoing rapid, continual change, with the majority of the central city experiencing a major facelift over the past ten years. This ChchChanges project consists of a tour of frames located specifically to highlight various places, rebuild success stories, sites awaiting development or tofocus

GAP FILLER’S GRANDSTANDIUM, IS A RELOCATABLE MINI-GRANDSTAND LAUNCHED IN OCTOBER 2015 IN TIME FOR THE FESTIVAL OF TRANSITIONAL ARCHITECTURE (FESTA). THE GRANDSTANDIUM PROVIDES SEATING FOR 30 ATOP A TRAILER AND COMES WITH A SCOREBOARD, COMMENTARY BOX AND BINOCULARS FORADDED DRAMA.
