European Gymnastics counts 50 national member federations. It is a sports organisation, which reaches far beyond the borders of political Europe but nevertheless bears the idea of a united gymnastics nation. As guarantor of interests of its more than 10 000 000 gymnasts, European Gymnastics represents quite different facets of the sport: from Olympic sports to gymnastics for all. WELCOME TO EUROPEAN GYMNASTICS! Dear members of the Gymnastics family The moment has now arrived on Wednesday, 1st April 2020, UEG officially becomes European Gymnastics! We start this new chapter, continuing the excellent work done by our predecessors, celebrating the unity on our continent and moving forward in this digital age. Unfortunately, the covid-19 pandemic is far from under control, but we learned a lot from the 2020 Europeans in Mersin (TUR) and other major international sports events being held worldwide. TEAMGYM NEWS! THE TEAMGYM NEWSLETTER N° 12 Welcome to the 12th edition of the TeamGym Newsletter! Hope you are all well! After a rather hectic start of the year with a TeamGym judges’ course on January 2nd-6th in Bracknell (GBR) followed by a Technical Committee meeting and an Introductory course on February 7th-8th in Šamorín (SVK), we were ready to sink our teeth into all scheduled activities for 2020. PREVIEW OF THE 2021 ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS EUROPEAN On Wednesday competition will begin at Basel’s St Jakobshalle. It’s the fifth time Switzerland will host the Artistic Gymnastics European Championships: the Men’s event was held in Bern in 1975, in Lausanne in 1990 and 2008 and, most recently, the 2016 Europeans in Bern for both men and women. 38 Federations are travelling to Basel to challenge for the continental titles. MUNICH TO HOST MULTI-SPORT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2022 The EC2022 Board is pleased to announce that Munich will host the 2022 European Championships following unanimous approval of their bid by the participating European Federations. Munich 2022 will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Olympic Games held in the German city, with the iconic Munich Olympic Park set to be the heart of the second edition of the multi-sport championships. BULGARIA IMPRESSES AT BAKU WORLD CUP The ladies of the Bulgarian group were on fire in Baku, claiming all three gold medals with a comfortable margin over rivals Italy, Belarus and Azerbaijan. It’s the very first time Bulgaria will host the Rhythmic Europeans! 37 Federations are travelling to Bulgaria to challenge for the continental titles. A total of 321 gymnasts are scheduled to compete: 203 senior gymnasts and 118 juniors. Who to watch? Headlined by Russian superstars Dina and Arina Averina TRAMPOLINE JUNIOR AGE 2021 EUROPEANS As the 2020 European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline were postponed to 2021, the European Gymnastics Executive Committee requested an exception to the Technical Regulations to FIG. At the recent FIG Executive Committee meeting, the exception was approved: - Gymnasts born in 2004 exceptionally have the choice to compete as either junior or senior PREVIEW OF THE 2021 RHYTHMIC SEASON Preview of the 2021 Rhythmic season. This week the first World Cup event of the year kicks off in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. So far, all Olympic qualifying events are scheduled to go ahead, including our very own European Championships in June in Varna (BUL). Last year, the top 24 gymnasts qualified a spot for their country in this year’s all-around final. Non-qualified countries were given the option to compete with 1 gymnast, originally to get a chance to secure Olympic qualification. TRAMPOLINE JUNIOR AGE 2021 EUROPEANS As the 2020 European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline were postponed to 2021, the European Gymnastics Executive Committee requested an exception to the Technical Regulations to FIG. At the recent FIG Executive Committee meeting, the exception was approved: - Gymnasts born in 2004 exceptionally have the choice to compete as either junior or senior MUNICH TO HOST MULTI-SPORT EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2022 The EC2022 Board is pleased to announce that Munich will host the 2022 European Championships following unanimous approval of their bid by the participating European Federations.
