DR CHARLOTTE NELLIST Staff Recent Research Projects. 2019-2020 – Deployment of durable, broad-spectrum resistance to Turnip mosaic virus into Brassica oleracea in sub-Saharan Africa (BBSRC/CONNECTED) – PI 2018-2022 – Investigating durable resistance to Phytophthora cactorum in strawberry and apple (BBSRC/CTP) – Principle Supervisor of PhD Student Matteo Luberti EAST MALLING STRAWBERRY BREEDING CLUB The national programme for strawberry breeding has been based at East Malling since 1983. The programme has been successful in releasing 39 varieties for all sectors of the strawberry industry since 1988, with over 250 million plants of these varieties being sold, mostly in the UK and Northern Europe but also in more distant territories such SouthKorea and the USA.
DR MATEVZ PAPP-RUPAR Research Interests. I am interested in development of innovative, sustainable approaches to pathogen control in horticulture production systems and understanding the basic molecular and ecological mechanisms involved.ROSS NEWHAM

DR ANDREW SIMKIN
Research Interests. My principal research activities over the past 20 years have focused on the production of secondary metabolites implicated in the nutritional quality of foods (tomato, pepper, coffee) and in plant development (tomato, tobacco, petunia, Catharanthus, Arabidopsis).DR FLORA O'BRIEN
Research Interests. My research at NIAB EMR focuses on rootstock – scion interactions. This includes the role of mycorrhizal fungi on tomato plants; the impact of root abiotic stresses on strawberry shoot susceptibility to pests and the response of strawberry rootsKATIE HOPSON
