The Elan Valley Trail is a linear path following the line of the old Birmingham Corporation Railway. The trail starts in Cwmdauddwr, just west of Rhayader and finishes 13 km (9 miles) further up the Elan Valley at Craig Goch Dam. The purpose of the trail is to improve access to the Elan Valley and its countryside, particularly for theless-able.

EYES ON THE NIGHT SKY: JUNE 2021 Welcome to the June edition of Eyes on the Night Sky. Astronomical twilight continues for the whole of this month but you can still go outside and enjoy the night sky. The Moon and planets can be enjoyed with the unaided eyes, through telescopes and binoculars and just gazing into a deep blue night sky with a smattering of sparkling stars can be a beautiful experience. WILDLIFE | ELAN VALLEY The majority of the Estate is included in a Special Protection Area under the EC Directive on Wild Birds and falls within the Cambrian Mountains Environmentally Sensitive Area. The Estate is home to a wide range of wildlife, many species thriving and in good numbers, others more perilous and in need of careful stewardship. Mammals ANGLING | ELAN VALLEY The 2020 fishing season on the reservoirs runs from 20th March until 17th October. A fishing information leaflet and permits are available from the Visitor Centre. Mammals FARMING ON THE ELAN ESTATE The Estate is presently divided into 36 agricultural holdings which in total extend to approximately 17,500 hectares (43,000 acres). Of these holdings 28 are tenanted and 8 are farmed directly by the Elan Valley Trust. The largest holding is over 2,800 hectares (7,000 acres) whilst the smallest is only some 18 hectares (44 acres). There are 24 farmhouses/farmsteads with the ELAN VALLEY INTERNATIONAL DARK SKY PARK Live. •. In 2015, the Elan Valley Estate achieved International Dark Sky Park status and became the first privately owned but publicly accessible park in the world to do so. Here on the Estate we were granted the silver-tier status by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) based in Arizona, USA. This status now means thatthe entire
