The Buonarroti Archive, owned by the House, consists in fact of 169 volumes, which start from Michelangelo’s ancestors to reach the first half of the nineteenth century, and which contain the most important collection of autograph papers by theartist.

CASA BUONARROTI FIRENZE MUSEO E MONUMENTO, LUOGO DELLA MEMORIA E DELLA CELEBRAZIONE DEL GENIO DI MICHELANGELO, e insieme fastoso apparato barocco ed esposizione delle ricche collezioni d’arte della famiglia, la CASA BUONARROTI È UNA DELLE PIÙ SINGOLARI OCCASIONI DI VISITA TRA LE REALTÀ MUSEALI FIORENTINE e offre, in primo luogo, l’emozione di ammirare DUE CELEBRI RILIEVI MARMOREI, CAPOLAVORI DELLA PRIMA GIOVINEZZA DI MICHELANGELO, la _MADONNA DELLA SCALA_,
testimonianza intensa dello studio appassionato di Donatello, e la _BATTAGLIA DEI CENTAURI_,
segno eloquente di un amore mai sopito per l’arte classica. Ma non meno significativo, per chi varca il portone del palazzo secentesco di via Ghibellina 70 a FIRENZE, è COLLEGARE LE OPERE MICHELANGIOLESCHE CON LE VICENDE SECOLARI DELLA FAMIGLIA BUONARROTI, che si è prodigata per ampliare la dimora, per abbellirla, per conservarvi preziose EREDITÀ CULTURALI (tra cui l’importanteARCHIVIO e la
BIBLIOTECA ), per
raccogliervi RARE COLLEZIONI D’ARTE: DIPINTI, SCULTURE, MAIOLICHE, REPERTI ARCHEOLOGICI DISTRIBUITI OGGI NEI DUE PIANI DEL MUSEO. DISEGNI AUTOGRAFI DI MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI Al piano nobile, una sala appositamente attrezzata espone a rotazione piccoli nuclei della COLLEZIONE DI DISEGNI AUTOGRAFI DI MICHELANGELO DI PROPRIETÀ DELLA CASA, costituita da duecentocinque preziosi fogli. Ne tracciamo rapidamente la storia. In un passo famoso della _Vita _di Michelangelo Giorgio Vasari racconta, a testimonianza del suo desiderio di perfezione, che l’artista, prima di morire a Roma nel 1564, volle bruciare «gran numero di disegni, schizzi e cartoni fatti da man sua, acciò nessuno vedessi le fatiche durate da lui et i modi di tentare l’ingegno suo, per non apparire se non perfetto». Per fortuna, non pochi DISEGNI DI MICHELANGELO erano rimasti a Firenze, presso la famiglia, alla data della sua morte, e altri ne recuperò a Roma il nipote Leonardo; il quale tuttavia, per esaudire i desideri collezionistici del duca di Toscana Cosimo I dei Medici gliene donò un buon numero, intorno al 1566, consegnando per di più nelle stesse mani la _MADONNA DELLA SCALA_, e quanto si trovava ancora nello studio di via Mozza, che l’artista aveva lasciato trent’anni prima, all’atto del suo trasferimento da Firenze a Roma_._ Quando, più di cinquanta anni dopo la morte di Michelangelo, il suo pronipote, MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI IL GIOVANE, ALLESTÌ SOPRATTUTTO IN MEMORIA DEL GRANDE ANTENATO UNA SERIE DI SALE NELLA CASA DI FAMIGLIA, LA _MADONNA DELLA SCALA_ E PARTE DEI DISEGNI DONATI AI MEDICI GLI FURONO RESTITUITI dal granduca Cosimo II; e intanto il memore pronipote andava recuperando a caro prezzo, anche sul mercato romano, altri FOGLI AUTOGRAFI DI MICHELANGELO.Pagine: 1 2

Casa Buonarroti e il Complesso Monumentale di Santa Croce trovano un importante punto di incontro nel nome di Michelangelo: dai capolavori della prima giovinezza esposti in Casa Buonarroti al luogo di sepoltura, da sempre auspicato dall’Artista, nella Basilica di SantaCroce.
