In support of our net carbon neutral by 2050 goal, we’re repowering our Genesee facility to utilize 100% natural gas and move off-coal in 2023 – more than 6 years ahead of government mandate. In 2020, we initiated plans and stakeholder engagement for the repowering of Genesee Units 1 & 2 to natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) generationunits.
CARBON CONVERSION
The estimated capital cost for this project is $20 million to $25 million. GC 3 will utilize emissions from the Genesee facility alongside C2CNT technology – a carbon conversion solution that transforms emissions into high quality carbon nanotubes. CNTs have many industrial applications and Lehigh Hanson (Lehigh), a subsidiaryof
SHEPARD ENERGY CENTRE MW. In December 2012, Capital Power and ENMAX Corporation signed a joint agreement to build, own, and operate the 881 MW Shepard Energy Centre in Calgary, Alberta.
