BATA SHOE MUSEUM
Recently, the remains of 215 Indigenous children were found on the site of the former Kamloops residential school in British Columbia. The Bata Shoe Museum is profoundly saddened by the loss and the ongoing suffering of the victims of the residential school system inCanada.

This online exhibition features stories and artifacts based on the museum’s existing collection that focus on the footwear traditions of aboriginal groups and Canada’s multicultural communities. Take a fascinating journey and experience the many facets of footwear: its evolution and symbolism through the ages, the methods and materials of its manufacture and its place in our imaginations. Located in Toronto, the Bata Shoe Museum regularly displays over a thousand shoes and related artefacts, chosen from a collection of over 13,000 objects, in architect Raymond Moriyama’s iconic, award-winning building. The BSM celebrates the style, development and function of STANDING TALL: THE CURIOUS HISTORY OF MEN IN HEELS Standing Tall: The Curious History of Men in Heels, opened to the public on May 8, 2015. As the official exhibition to launch the Museum’s 20 th anniversary year, Standing Tall challenged preconceived notions about who wears heels and why. Swathed from head to toe in expensive garments and shod in delicate footwear, fashion-forward women graced the boulevards and the ballrooms with their colourful presence—a pleasure to behold for painters, poets, and passersby who saw them. MANITOBAH MUKLUKS STORYBOOT SCHOOL The project will also permit Storyboot artisans from across Canada to display and sell their mukluks at the museum. Storyboot School originated with Manitobah Mukluks, a Winnipeg-based, Aboriginal-owned retailer of handcrafted mukluks and moccasins. FASHION VICTIMS: THE PLEASURES AND PERILS OF 19TH CENTURY In the 19th century, the beautiful outfits fashioned by seamstresses and shoemakers supplied the privileged with enviable ensembles. Swathed from head to toe in expensive garments and shod in delicate footwear, fashion-forward women graced the boulevards and the ballrooms with their colourful presence—a pleasure to behold for painters, poets, and passersby who saw them. MANITOBAH MUKLUKS STORYBOOT SCHOOL The project will also permit Storyboot artisans from across Canada to display and sell their mukluks at the museum. Storyboot School originated with Manitobah Mukluks, a Winnipeg-based, Aboriginal-owned retailer of handcrafted mukluks and moccasins. From the St. George subway station (on both the Bloor-Danforth and the Yonge-University lines), exit onto St. George Street. Turn left (walk south) for about 30 seconds and you’ll be at the northeast corner of Bloor Street West and St. George Street. From there, cross the road twice to reach the southwest corner of the intersection, and you’reat the Museum!

From Highway 401
Take the Avenue Road exit and go south to Bloor Street. Turn right onto Bloor Street and continue west to St. George Street. OR take the Bathurst Street exit and go south to Bloor Street. Turn left onto Bloor Street and continue east to St. George Street. From the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Get onto the Gardiner Expressway and exit at Spadina Avenue. Proceed north on Spadina to Bloor Street. Then turn right onto Bloor Street and go east on Bloor to St. George Street.Parking
