IMI 2021 REPORTS AND DIGEST Public health is defined as “the art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts of society.” 1 Myopia has a major impact on eye health and hence quality of life and disability, particularly later in life, owing to its association with both direct and indirect damage to the chorioretina, optic nerve, and the crystalline lens. 2 The EXTENSIVE SUB-RPE COMPLEMENT DEPOSITION IN A NONHUMAN Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in working-age adults worldwide. 1 The extensive application of diabetic animal models facilitates us to get a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis of DR. Most animal models of DR are induced by chemicals or genetically modified. 2, 3 Particularly, nonhuman primates (NHPs) could spontaneously develop type 2 THE CONTRIBUTION OF DIFFERENT FACIAL REGIONS TO THE How we recognize and distinguish faces and facial expressions is the subject of a large field of research. Scientific studies on the nature of facial expressions arguably began with Darwin ().He gathered evidence that some resulting facial expressions seem to have certain relations to emotional states. AFFINITY AND POTENCY OF RTH258 (ESBA1008), A NOVEL Purpose: RTH258 is a humanized monoclonal single-chain Fv (scFv) antibody fragment targeting VEGF-A. In this study, we characterized affinity and in vitro potency of RTH258 in comparison to the VEGF inhibitors bevacizumab, ranibizumab, and aflibercept under standardized conditions. THE RIDE AND RISE STUDIES OF THE EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF Purpose: : Ranibizumab (LUCENTIS®) is a humanized IgG1 antibody fragment that inhibits biologic activity of human vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and is FDA-approved for patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration. We herein describe RIDE and RISE, two phase III, multicenter, sham injection-controlled trials to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal POSTURE-RELATED CHANGES OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE IN Purpose: To evaluate the posture-related change in intraocular pressure (IOP) of eyes with angle-closure disease and the associated factors.. Methods: Eyes were prospectively enrolled and divided into three groups: eyes with acute primary angle-closure (APAC), fellow eyes of acute primary angle-closure (FAPAC), and eyes with nonacute primary angle-closure disease (PACD). BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE RESISTANCE IN STAPHYLOCOCCUS In response to disinfectants, bacteria have developed mechanisms to effectively resist them. 3 Proton motive force efflux pumps, which can expel intracellular drugs, are one of the major mechanisms through which bacteria acquire such resistance. Several bacteria have their own efflux pumps; in Staphylococcus, qacA, 4 qacB, 5 and qacC/smr 6, 7 genes encoding efflux pumps have been detected. UNDERSTANDING EYE MOVEMENTS IN FACE RECOGNITION USING Abstract: . Abstract We use a hidden Markov model (HMM) based approach to analyze eye movement data in face recognition.HMMs are statistical models that are specialized in handling time-series data. We conducted a face recognition task with Asian participants, and model each participant's eye movement pattern with an HMM, which summarized the participant's scan paths in face recognition IMI ACCOMMODATION AND BINOCULAR VISION IN MYOPIA The association between sustained near work demanding high levels of ocular accommodation and the development of myopia has been well documented. 1 Epidemiologic studies have also shown a correlation between the amount of near work and the onset and progression of myopia. 2 – 4 Consequently, increased accommodative effort required during near work has been proposed as a EFFECT OF “COLOR-CORRECTING GLASSES” ON CHROMATIC Purpose : Congenital red-green (RG) color vision deficiency (CVD) is an X-linked condition affecting approximately one in twelve males. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of this concentration on reduction of axial length progression has not been proven. This study explores the one year effectiveness of high versus low dose atropine on spherical equivalent refraction (SER EVALUATION OF THE SITA FASTER 24-2C VISUAL FIELD TEST The SITA Faster 24-2C test includes 10 points from the SITA 10-2 pattern tested at the end of the SITA Faster 24-2 threshold test. The purpose of this study was to evaluate this new test in comparison to the SITA Fast 24-2 test and the comparable points of the SITA Fast 10-2 test. SUPPRESSIVE EFFECT OF COMBINED TREATMENT OF Purpose : To perform a prospective, observational clinical study to determine the combined suppressive effects of orthokeratology (OK) and 0.01% atropine instillation on axial length elongation in childhood myopia. We report the results of a 1-year follow-up of this study. Methods : Children aged 8 to 12 years with spherical equivalent refractions of -1.00 to -6.00 diopters (D) and astigmatism OPTICAL AND VISUAL PERFORMANCE OF VIOLET BLOCKING For violet blocking IOLs, there was an approximately 50% reduction in the halo intensity for blue light when compared to clear IOLs. RAPID MYOPIC PROGRESSION IN CHILDHOOD IS ASSOCIATED WITH In this longitudinal study, including children with a long follow-up, we found that 3 and 1-year childhood myopia progression (6 to 11 years old) were associated with teenage HM (12 to 19 years old). The other factors associated with teenage HM were baseline SE and age of onset of myopia.
