REVIEW DATABASE
Since we launched Anime Feminist in Fall 2016, we’ve published premiere reviews of every new, licensed anime. These days, we provide three major review types per season: premieres, three-episode check-ins, and seasonal recommendations. Once we have more funding to pay our reviewers, we’d love to expand into regularly reviewing manga, films, light novels, older anime ANIME FEMINIST RECOMMENDATIONS OF WINTER 2021 The upbeat Rinku crashes into Maho’s life and gets sucked into the after-school DJ scene at their school. The two girls decide to begin their own DJ group, and with a little talent and a lot of hard work, they just may become the school’s newest sensation. Content Considerations: Mild ANIME FEMINIST RECOMMENDATIONS OF SPRING 2020 Just because several spring shows were delayed to summer and fall doesn’t mean there wasn’t some absolutely dynamite anime this season! We talked about three kinds of recommendations: Feminist-friendly favorite: You’d recommend it to a feminist friend with no caveats. Problematic favorite: You’d only recommend it to a feminist friend with caveats. 2021 WINTER PREMIERE DIGEST While Alex took some time off this season for their thesis, Mercedez, Lizzie, Vrai, Dee, and Chiaki tackled the season together. The titles were divided evenly and by the reviewer’s choice. Caitlin pitched in on the Anime News Network Preview Guide this season, so you can see her take on the new shows over there. KYUBEY'S MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING SCHEME: THE CAPITALIST Spoilers for Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is beloved (or infamous) for its unique take on the magical girl genre, depicting an exploitative system designed to turn its heroines into monsters. Since its release in 2011, fans have read this system through the lenses of gender, sexuality, ethics, and religion.20210605_111533

KYUBEY’S MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING SCHEME: THE CAPITALIST METAPHOR OFMADOKA MAGICA
* Feature
Looking at this series through an economic lens reveals yet another layer of interpretation: a story about the cruelty of business models that profit off the worker’s suffering. MY FAVE IS PROBLEMATIC: THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA * My Fave is Problematic From 2007 to 2011 or so, Kyoto Animation’s multimedia juggernaut dominated most aspects of Western anime fandom. Whether getting stormed by a “Hare Hare Yukai” flash mob at a con or debating the “correct” viewing order online, you couldn’t escape the series’ sizable cult of personality. When watched today, it’s still easy to see why the small show left such a big impact. Yet for all of its still-endearing charms, Haruhi is plagued by foundational cracks that consistently threaten to undermine its core strengths.LATEST ARTICLES
