460 TIMING | 460 FORD FORUM 17 Posts. Discussion Starter · #1 · Aug 4, 2019. I have a 76/77 lincoln 460 in my 79 truck. I'm having issues with getting it timed. This started when I had to replace the pickup coil in the distributor. Replaced the coil, truck started right up but would cough and puke thru the carb when given gas. (vacuum advance connected)KAASE P-51 HEADS
We have been testing a new set of heads (P-51) on a 514 crate engine. The engine has Diamond flat tops, with 2 sets of valve pockets (CJ&SCJ), and a Comp Cams 265/ 269@.050, .788 lift, 106 LSA roller cam. It has about .015 to .020 deck clearance. We redid the valve job a few times and the heads are 77 cc right now.460 GAS MILEAGE
Boat has a 454 with an 800 DP, truck a 460 with a 750 DP. Just thought that was interesting. When my '86 was bone stock height and bone stock 351w with a C6 it could squeeze about 16-17 MPG highway at 70-75. I believe a stock height truck460 CONNECTING RODS

It causes a hotter exhaust on start-up so the catalytic converter lights-off quicker and lessens exhaust hydrocarbons for fewer emisions. If you don't want or need any of those things then it is notnecessary. G.

I would like some suggestions on what size you guys would recomend and any specific carb shops if any. The engine is a 1974 460 bored .030" with sealed power pistons, eagle rods and stock crank. The heads are the Edelbrock 95cc with a Performer RPM intake and429 OR 460??
Both 429 and 460 use the same block. 1Bad65, 460 cubes is a 3.85" crank 4.36" bore. 460 cubes is a 3.59" crank 4.515" bore (almost impossible to do, not realistic) You would probably see no (as zero) difference in power or torque as the cubes are equal with 99% of allbuilds.

The D0OE-R heads are the factory 429 Cobra Jet/Super Cobra Jet cylinder heads. Of all the factory wedge head offerings for the 429/460 engine family, those heads have the portential to generate the greatest amount of power. They have the biggest valves, biggest ports, and smallest combustion chambers as delivered. "BOSS BULKHEAD" D0VE-A BLOCKS EXPLAINED Paul Kane. The D0VE-A block comes in two primary configurations: 2-bolt mains and 4-bolt mains. My engine had been stored in the rear of my best friends garage since the mid-1980's when he took it in as a trade for a low mileage 351M he owned and we thought the 460 was a mid-1970's smog 460 because it was pulled from a 1978/79 Bronco. The only unique external part was the factory Ford aluminum finned valve covers and the 4V 460 HORSEPOWER CHART (REVISED 1/24/09) Horsepower peak at 4,500 rpm. We have been testing a new set of heads (P-51) on a 514 crate engine. The engine has Diamond flat tops, with 2 sets of valve pockets (CJ&SCJ), and a Comp Cams 265/ 269@.050, .788 lift, 106 LSA roller cam. It has about .015 to .020 deck clearance. We redid the valve job a few times and the heads are 77 cc right now. 460 OVERHEATING PROBLEM Hello all, i'm new to the site. I have a 73 460 in my bronco and actually just got it road worthy. I am having trouble with overheating. I'm new to ford big blocks and don't know if they have a problem with overheating. I'm running a heavy duty 3 core (bronco) radiator with dual electric fans ENGINETECH BEARINGS. ANY GOOD? Enginetech is based in Texas and has warehouse's in 15 states and are the largest engine parts supplier in the world. Their market is the engine rebuild industry. Both 429 and 460 use the same block. 1Bad65, 460 cubes is a 3.85" crank 4.36" bore. 460 cubes is a 3.59" crank 4.515" bore (almost impossible to do, not realistic) You would probably see no (as zero) difference in power or torque as the cubes are equal with 99% of allbuilds.

My engine had been stored in the rear of my best friends garage since the mid-1980's when he took it in as a trade for a low mileage 351M he owned and we thought the 460 was a mid-1970's smog 460 because it was pulled from a 1978/79 Bronco. The only unique external part was the factory Ford aluminum finned valve covers and the 4V 460 HORSEPOWER CHART (REVISED 1/24/09) Horsepower peak at 4,500 rpm. Keep redline to 5500 rpm. 325-350HP 460ci. Intake System: Holley 750 vacuum secondary. Edelbrock Performer (non-Rpm) Intake Manifold. Cylinder Heads: Heads can be D0VE or D3VE with mild port job. (315-ish/180-ish cfm @.600)BEST 460 MODS...

I think the engine they used was a late '70s, low compression 460. That Performer cam is still tiny for a 460 engine.TIMING CURVE
4thHorseman. Try roughly 12 initial and building to a total of 35 by 3400 and remaining there until redline on an rpm vs timing map. If it has a mapping for vacuum advance I'd have it at about +6 degrees at high vacuum (13+ inches) and coming down to zero at 2 inches or less.
