Women and water. What is the connection? Yes, we all need water to survive, but the link between women and water goes deeper than hydration and crop HOW TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DRINKING CLEAN WATER The water crises experienced in the United States remind us that drinking clean water is critical for all of us to stay healthy, no matter where we live. IDEA
Developing nations lack water delivery infrastructure. In 2015 663 Million lacked access to safe water within 1 kilometre (fairobserver.com). Water is not easy to keep clean if it must be transported from a shared source. Globally it causes the deaths of over 1,000 children every day. The Hippo Roller was specifically designed to alleviate the suffering incurred and time consumed collecting water in tough rural conditions. This appropriate technology rolls 90-litres of water on the ground and has been deployed since 1993. More water means a better quality of life, children are enabled to get to school and gain better employment opportunities. Families can irrigate, generating income and rising above subsistence levels. Time given back is valuable and a benefit that Hippo Rollers bring. “2,1 billion people lack access to safe readily available water at home” WHO & UNICEF (12 Jul ’17) implying that it must be collected. 55,000+ Hippo Rollers have already been distributed to 48 countries over the past 25 years. It is our plan to distribute another 75,000, ending misery for millions by scaling distribution and throughlocal manufacture.
We plan to achieve a lower “landed cost” so NGOs, governments, sponsors and donors are able to purchase more cost effectively from local distributors and this will provide access to new markets for additional water related technology products. Traditional methods of collecting water is by heavy 20-litre buckets (20kg) balanced on the head, by mostly women, children and elderly. This daily task is very time consuming and not easy over longdistances.

children with their new Hippo Roller. Collecting water is much easier and quicker now so they can get to school on time and achieve a better quality of education for improved employment opportunities. These Hippo Rollers have been rolling 90L of water each day for the past 8 years. They are very durable and well suited to the tough terrain where they are needed. Embedded grains of sand add more protection. Nelson Mandela endorsed the Hippo Roller. “A personal appeal is made to your organization to actively support a national project which will positively change the lives of millions of our fellow South Africans." Currently, all Hippo Rollers are manufactured in South Africa and exported to many countries at great expense due to the volume occupied. Shipping in bulk and local manufacture will reducethe 'landed' cost.
We plan to continue changing lives by scaling up distribution. Packaging materials are not used as it unnecessary and single-use plastic would be harmful to the environment. Spare parts are placed in the drum. The specially
designed irrigation cap allows for irrigating food garden rows by simply rolling up to plants and removing the mini-cap. The mini-cap uses standard soda bottle tops for easy replacement if lost.To
encourage Corporate Social Investment, Governments and NGO sponsors to include Hippo Rollers in their projects and brand building, we offer durable branding (logos) on the drum and matching drum colours. We encourage
investors to recognise that SDG 6 is a significant challenge and that proven, appropriate technologies like the Hippo Roller are required to change lives across the globe. Please get involved now!__ Previous
