BACKPACK
Once a full-time backpacker, I'm now trying to find a balance between continuing to explore off the beaten path places around the world while also building a home in Norway. I've now traveled through over 80 countries and have a soft spot for pretty landscapes, the Nordics, anywhere I can practice my Russian, and venturing off the touristtrail.
NORWAY IN A NUTSHELL REVIEW The first point is actually my biggest issue with the tour – Norway in a Nutshell isn’t a guided tour, it just provides you with a set of tickets, all of which you could book independently for much cheaper. So you’re essentially paying a (pretty high!) fee to have someone book tickets that you could easily book online yourself. MY IDEAL THREE DAY COLORADO ROAD TRIP ITINERARY Day 1: Denver to Salida. Salida is about a 2.5-3 hour drive from Denver, though I’d recommend giving yourself extra time, as you’ll likely want to take pictures along the way. Salida is a town of about 5,000 people. But we were told it swells to over double that in thesummer.
HOW TO SPEND A GIRLS' WEEKEND IN SANTA FE We also learned that Santa Fe is the perfect place for a fun girls’ weekend with some history lessons thrown in. We kicked off our first day in Santa Fe with breakfast at the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market at the Railyard, which was conveniently right across the street from our hotel. This is one of the oldest and largest farmers’ markets in HOW TO PLAN AN EPIC ROAD TRIP IN NORWAY If you’re camping, bring a really warm sleeping bag and pitch away from the main road. Even in the summer the nights in the mountains get really cold, so make sure your sleeping bag can withstand freezing temperatures. And while wild camping is totally legal here, I 18 BEST NORWEGIAN MOVIES OF ALL TIME The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (1975) (Flåklypa Grand Prix) This is a classic. Like when I was searching this on YouTube and a preview came up I immediately felt all warm and fuzzy inside. UNBIASED REVIEW: DEUTER AIRCONTACT LITE 65 + 10 LITER The Deuter ACT Lite 65 + 10 Liter backpack is perfect for long backpacking trips. It easily fits enough clothing and gear for long term travel (through multiple seasons!) without getting too heavy. The clever construction eases the weight off the back, making it possible to carry for long stretches without discomfort. 9 REASONS YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID TO VISIT ROMANIA If you want to visit Romania you should go to Brasov (there is the street of the rope and the statue of Mrs. Cord), Cluj, Sibiu, Timisoara, maybe Constanța (there is the casino in Constanța, it was famous for its beauty, now it is under renovation and can he says I’m surprised, I thought he would fall into the sea until they startrenovating it!).
11 REASONS WHY FINLAND IS THE WORST SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRY You’ll find yourself getting more and more desperate when hanging out with a Finn. My American friend told me that during her time in Finland she told a Finn about how she used to have panic attacks as a kid where she’d run around her house tearing off her clothes, she told a Finn about that weird rash her sister gets when she’s toocold

11 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE VISITING THE LOFOTEN Lofoten is a mecca for hiking, climbing, fishing, kayaking, skiing, Arctic surfing (in the summer AND winter), and cycling. The tourism scene there has a very young vibe, with lots of budget accommodation, and even the luxury accommodation markets itself towards adventureseekers.
13 EXPERIENCES YOU NEED TO HAVE IN SHETLAND Coastal walks. About 160 kilometers north of the Scottish mainland, the Shetland Islands mark the northernmost part of Scotland. Shetland consists of over a hundred islands, though only fifteen are inhabited, and they have a population of around 23,000 people. In other words, you’ll find a lot of quiet open spaces and coastline here.
HOW TO SPEND ONE WEEK IN NORWAY: MY 3 TOP NORWAY Luxury. Fossheim Hotel is a historic hotel from 1897 in Lom, with a restaurant featuring gourmet dishes with local produce. Check availability and current rates here. The Elveseter Hotel is a family-run mountain lodge in Boverdalen full of traditional Norwegian art, wood carvings, and cozy fireplaces in the lobby area. WHERE I BUY MY NORDIC SWEATERS Dale of Norway. If you want a traditional Norwegian sweater, Amazon carries Dale of Norway sweaters here. I love their traditional patterns, but theyhave
THINKING OF MOVING TO NORWAY? HERE'S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW There are different ways to obtain permanent residence in Norway, but essentially you’ll have to have had a residence permit here for at least three years, and show a certain level of Norwegian language and social understanding. And no, three years of having a study permit won’t count towards permanent residency, unfortunately. 7 WAYS NORWAY ISN'T AS EXPENSIVE AS YOU THINK And if you want to see the Northern Lights, this is the best place to see Northern Lights in Norway. And now let’s do something about that notion that “Norway is just insanely expensive.”. 1. The Norwegian krone is super weak right now. This is the number one reason that everyone who is even a bit interested in Norway should visit, likenow.

I mean, I would be ableto live in

Definitely try to schedule at least one night in a traditional Japanese ryokan. And yes, you’ll want to choose the tatami room, even if it’s more expensive. Actually, ryokans can end up being really good deals, as often breakfast and dinner will be included in the room price. Hagihonjin, the ryokan I THINGS TO DO ON A NORTHERN LIGHTS TRIP WHEN YOU DON'T SEE The guided tour only lasts 20 minutes, where the guide tells you about the history of the hotel, the harvesting of ice for the hotel, the different designs of the rooms, and the details of how the 365 day ice hotel works. And then you’ll have over an hour to explore the two ice hotels on your own! That was of course my favorite part of thetour.
