HOW DOES SMARTMILES WORK? HASTINGS DIRECT SMARTMILES IS MORE THAN YOUR USUAL INSURANCE POLICY. By installing a SmartMiles box in your car, we use GPS satellites to help analyse your personal driving style.THE SMARTMILES BOX
The box fits discreetly out of the way and won’t affect your car’s performance or impact your warranty. We then report your stats back to you via an online dashboard andsmartphone app.
SCORING YOUR DRIVING By measuring your speed, braking, acceleration and the time of day you drive, we'll calculate you a SmartMiles driver rating out of 100. We won't charge you a penalty for driving at night. However driving between 10pm and 5am will lower your driver rating, so we recommend you don't do this regularly. DRIVING SAFELY IS IMPORTANT We want to encourage safe driving, so take it easy out there. We ask that you keep your driver rating above 40. KEEP YOUR SCORE ABOVE 40 If your average driver rating is below 40, this tells us you aren’t driving as safely as you could. Scoring under 40 or speeding excessively will mean we have to cancel your policy or not offer you a renewal. But if your score does dip below 40, we’ll let you know so you havetime to improve
