Hello all, I've been lurking around for a while and finally decided to get hanging. I've got quite a few things on the way from DIYGearSupply for making a hammock, but while I'm waiting on it to get here I have to take care of another issue - my backyard has no place to hang from. I'll also be camping some with my son's Webelos Den and I'm not sure if we'll always have soem good trees around. OPINIONS ON JUKI SEWING MACHINE After having frustration after frustration sewing with a singer 9960, I'm looking into getting a machine that is more capable and more powerful than the singer. I'm eyeballing the juki 8700 and 5550 currently, and would be getting the servo version. Still being in the research phase, can anyone with experience with either of these machines chime in and give some pro's and con's of their use on QUESTION ABOUT SEWING "SILPOLY" Hello All, I am looking at my first DIY project. A pack cover, now I know its just a little project. But it is what I need right now. I am making it out of silpoly. Is there a need for a walking foot, roller foot etc. on the sewing machinè due to the slickness of the fabric? I am also planning other projects so i am not afraid of an investment ifit is warranted.

VIDEO: HORSESHOE BAY, LAKE HURON One more trip before the hellacious heat and humidity set in for good. I never publicized trips very often but now that covid has unleashed the entire world into the wilderness, there's really no point or hope for solitude in most places that were once quite. I did enjoy this place to myself, but it's not the greatest. I75 is loud, less than amile away.
SHOW ME YOUR DECK HAMMOCK HANG So the only thing to take away from this is to make sure the beams you'll hang from are 12, preferably 13 feet apart, at minimum. Just as often, I use my Tensa4 stand farther out in the yard or occasionally on top of the deck. You can see the other units' decks in the background of the first image. 07-12-2019, 12:52 #3. TOP QUILT FOOTBOX METHOD Last night I finished up a 3.6 CS TQ for 2-season use (mid-spring to mid-fall) and I thought I would share my methodology for making a footbox. It doesn't require fabricating any separate pieces and sewing them on, it's just something that I stumbled across while trying to fix my first TQ. It works on synthetic or down, and may or may not be more work than just sewing in a separate piece. WARBONNET BLACKBIRDS VS. HENNESSEY HAMMOCKS The WBBB is longer, wider, more comfortable, and while not the lightest, it stacks up pretty well against the HH. They come with proper suspensions, and ANY tarp from them will be better made and much lighter than most similar HH offerings. Signature suspended. 08-13-2015, 20:13 #5. FLEX SEAL, A GOOD TARP SEALER? Images. 1. Never used it but most folks either buy the material pre-coated i.e. Sil-net or they make they're own silicone concoction. I prefer to make my own. 1 5 gallon bucket. 1 10oz. tube of clear silicone. 2 quarts of mineral spirits. Stir well with a drill and painstir
DUTCH 2TS HAMMOCK CHAIR-WAY TOO LONG REVIEW. I love having gear that can do multiple tasks and this is one item that certainly fits that bill. I bought mine in orange so I could use it as a pack cover and distinguish myself from deer in the woods. I recently got back from a two nighter on the AT in GA and got to use this product so here is my review. On our first day out, we got some drizzle at lunch so I deployed the chair as a pack cover. CAN I USE A SLEEPING BAG AS AN UNDERQUILT? 7. You can certainly use a sleeping bag as an underquilt. There are many threads on this site on various ways to accomplish the task. One of the easiest I've see is to pickup a very cheap cargo net hammock that is close in size to your main hammock and place your sleeping bagin there.
DO YOU FOLD, ROLL OR STUFF AWAY YOUR TARP When purchasing a tarp or tent, it usually comes nicely folded and rolled inside it's sack. Previously I have continued folding and rolling it, but I am considering if it would be better to simply stuff it into a sack. That way, stress are put on random places, instead of the same places, and the shape when put in the backpack won't be finite, but can adapt to it's surroundings. DO I REALLY NEED CONCRETE TUBE FORMS FOR WHAT I AM DOING I got a post hole auger from Home Depot and I was surprised on how well it performed in my hard clay. It is an 8 inch auger and zoom it went it right down. I am going to put a 4 x 4 post in the 3.5 foot deep hole to hang my hammock (no trees). I was thinking of using an 8 inch concrete form tube but do I really to? I will be using quick drycement.

GUTERMANN THREAD CLARIFICATION Depending on where I look, the vendor descriptions on some of the Gutermann threads have been a bit confusing. 24. Just got the notice from Amok. Looked at the product. A full pound+ lighter, and about $100 more, and significantly less load capacity. A good value if I didn't already have a Draumr. I consider $100 a pound cheap when backpacking. Most modern gear is many times that price for weight saving. 03-24-2021, 15:18 #5. MAKING CLEWS, THEIR JIGS, AND MAKING A CAMPING HAMMOCK. I was thinking of using an 8 inch concrete form tube but do I really to? I will be using quick drycement.

SPLICING SHOCK CORD??? Cut the bungee about 1" longer than what you want for the loop. Roll back the overbraid on both ends about an inch exposing the inner white rubber core. Trim of 1/2" of the exposed core on one side. Now glue the inner cores together using a simple butt joint (I use a medium CA glue). This joint is suprisingly strong.MY TURTLEDOG STAND

Hello all, I've been lurking around for a while and finally decided to get hanging. I've got quite a few things on the way from DIYGearSupply for making a hammock, but while I'm waiting on it to get here I have to take care of another issue - my backyard has no place to hang from. I'll also be camping some with my son's Webelos Den and I'm not sure if we'll always have soem good trees around.HAMMOCK FORUMS

WNC> 12TH ANNUAL JOHN ROCK EVENT: 22-25 JULY 2021 Here it is. We'd would like to invite you to the twelfth annual John Rock Hang. Very excited that this hammock hang is over a decade old. Children and pets are welcome. Come for an over-nighter, a day hike, or stay for the weekend. I plan to be at the campsite by Thursday afternoon if anyone wants to join us early. EARLY. Located in Pisgah National Forest about five miles West of Brevard in BURYING POSTS TO HANG A HAMMOCK? Suspension. Varies. Posts. 8,464. You'll get lots of opinions, but if you have reasonably firm soil, use at least 4x6 (or 6" round) pressure treated posts buried 36" deep and use the excavated soil or crushed stone to backfill in 6" layers, compacting each layer SEWING NO-SEE-UM MESH I'm wondering if any sew-savvy/thread-injecting wizards have any tips for sewing no-see-um mesh? Specifically in using the mesh with folders and other such devices. I've been told to lessen the foot pressure, iron on interfacing to help stiffen up the mesh and prevent too much stretching. Stretching is really the issue. I'm using a needle feed, twin needle, machine with a lap seam folder and SPLICING SHOCK CORD??? Cut the bungee about 1" longer than what you want for the loop. Weight limit is 200 lbs per Warbonnet site. No suspension other than the dogbones.HAMMOCK FORUMS

the concern regarding excessive load on the webbing with trees which are far apart is a valid one, if one does not position the treestraps high enough on the trees, to get an angle close to 30deg. there is an interesting discussion on this forum regarding how to get the straps higher on the tree, safely, and thus get rid of "excessive tension" hangs (it's also worth looking into it for the FS: HAMMOCKS 'R US: WARBONNET, DREAM, SLD 1) Warbonnet Ridgerunner netted hammock, single layer in 40d Dreamtex, dark foliage green.
