GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS gnimmelshouseofmaps:. A rare foray into actual data today, in celebration of the Olympics. This arose from a conversation about what the best Olympic event was, and turned into an exploration of medal distribution for different sports by rich and poor countries. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS I have always been suspicious that there is a story hiding in the names of London stations. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS I have always been suspicious that there is a story hiding in the names of London stations. Or at least, when passing through Turnham Green or Hatton Cross I am GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS Today’s MOPS is two linked things. The starting point is that I like infographics. Often, people making novelty infographics do them in the style of Famous Diagrams of the Past: to take two common examples, Harry Beck’s London Underground Map, or the Periodic Table.Thus leading to, e.g. this transit map of the world’s transit systems, or this periodic table of condiments that go off. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS MOPS Day 30: Just in case such a situation should ever come to pass, you should note that there is an online copy of Gadsby in its entirety here. Click for bigger, slideshow format. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS In my other life, I am an academic. Depending on how the travel funding is going, I have been known to travel a lot (four continents in four months kind of a lot). That leads to things like this. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS Seven Kings for Seven Sisters, Part 4: In which we meet a witch. This would probably be a good time to note that sometimes the story relies on the right pronunciation for the station names (e.g. Holborn) and sometimes on the wrong pronunciation (e.g. Greenwich). GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS For some reason I felt like doing a tube map of the shipping forecast in the shape of a cup of tea. Radio 4 Britain, you’re welcome. However, I am doing a list-based writing project at the moment which is here. GNIMMEL'S HOUSE OF MAPS Mainly because I once perkily responded ‘not too bad!’ when asked 'how are you?’ at the beginning of a conversation about whether Icould get funding

* About
I finished some art that I left unfinished *mumble* years ago! Admittedly, time has moved on and now a) my scanner does not scan very well, and b) since I drew the left-side part one of the hand gestures got co-opted by the far right, but at least I finished a thing. It is intended to be vaguely illuminated manuscript knotwork-like but with hands. No particular text intended (the ‘A’ is because I had to put something there and it was first in the alphabet).Oct 6 2019 1 note
