EMANCIPATING OURSELVES FROM MENTAL ENSLAVEMENT Saturday June 19 is Juneteenth, celebrated by many as the end of slavery in the United States. The Garrison Institute is observing it with a daylong virtual meditation retreat for the Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) community. It’s designed for anyone who self-identifies as Black, LatinX, indigenous, of Asian descent, or as part of any other community of VIRTUAL RETREAT: THE KEY TO RECOVERY AND BUDDHIST PRACTICE A Virtual Retreat with Dr. Valerie Mason-John (Vimalasara) and Kevin Griffin. In this half-day retreat we will explore meditation practices and insights that help us to let go of our addictions and their underlying causes. There will be guidance in mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation as well as teachings on Right View, Right Intention and Right Effort, path factors central to letting go. CARE FOR CAREGIVERS: SKILLS FOR RESILIENCE THROUGH Led by Sharon Salzberg and Gayla Marie Styles We created a free app, Care for Caregivers, which can support the humanitarian aid workers, healthcare providers, first responders, and others in caregiving roles in need of rebalancing. It affirms the resilience and ability of caregivers to thrive and recover from difficult situations, even in the face of acute and chronic stress. BIPOC MEDITATION SANGHA We invite Black/Indigenous/People of Color (BIPOC) to join The Garrison Institute’s new BIPOC meditation sangha on Thursdays 12-1pm EDT. The Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Sangha is a weekly gathering of self-identified BIPOC practitioners that provides a safe place to meditate and explore contemplative practices. This sangha cultivates an environment that welcomes diverse ENDING RACISM: HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD IN ONE GENERATION Ending Racism: How to Change the World in One Generation An essay by Garrison Institute Fellow Justin Michael Williams.
