THE GODFATHER: VITO CORLEONE OFFICIAL TYPING BY CHARITY / THE MOD FUNCTIONAL ORDER: FE-NI-SE-TI JUDGING FUNCTIONAL AXIS: EXTROVERTED FEELING (FE) / INTROVERTED THINKING (TI) Unlike his son Michael, Vito sees himself as the “father” of the district he governs. He initially became a mafia don in order to react against the unfair treatment within the community of lesser souls – a woman being forced out of her apartment with nowhere to live or go. This parental role includes Vito trading “favors” because they are all “family.” After his son’s death, Vito appeals to the other dons to cease the violence and end the war, a farce that will buy them more time to discern and end their enemies – he is forthcoming about his feelings, saying that if so much as a bolt of lightning kills Michael, he will see to it a bloodbath ensues. Vito guilt trips the man who comes to him in the opening scene, accusing him of “insulting me” by asking how much it will cost to kill the man who beat up his daughter. He will not do it, until the man asks him nicely for a favor, as the “Godfather.” He then goes on to say they will not murder the man, because objectively his crime is not worth murder, but that he will “pay.” Vito’s inferior Ti shows in his softening up in old age; he has grown too fond of his children and grandchildren and lost his edge, enabling a rival don to put out a hit on him. He reminds Sonny to “never let others know what you are thinking.” Vito is, however, rational enough to know when it’s time to retire—he hands over everything to Michael and abides by his decisions, knowing he has a sharper mind and tactical thinking. PERCEIVING FUNCTIONAL AXIS: INTROVERTED INTUITION (NI) / EXTROVERTED SENSING (SE) Vito is always tactically thinking ahead; his argument about not getting into the drug trade is that a lot of politicians will no longer side with or protect their interests, due to drugs “not being like gambling or women, it’s a dirty business.” He has plans for his son Michael to enter politics and “legitimize” the Corleone family, presumably also why he does not mind his son marrying a girl from a non-Italian family (it’s a way to integrate into the culture and be seen more positively; less like “mafia” people). From one meeting, he discerns that a particular don was behind his assassination attempt. He warns his son whoever approaches him to “make peace” will be his enemy, and a traitor. As a young man, Vito sees how making a power grab can establish his dominance as a don; he sees a way to climb into power and takes it. HOGWARTS HOUSE: SLYTHERIN HOUSE TRAITS: cunning, resourcefulness, and ambition. Vito has two sides to him – the incredibly benevolent grandfather and father who is supportive of his sons and their ambitions, and wants to train them up to recognize and use their power defensively in protection of the family and those in their protection… and a man whose corruption extends into all levels of local government. He will use blackmail, coercion, and “offers he cannot refuse” to get hisway.
ENNEAGRAM: 2W3 SO/SP TRITYPE: 286 THE RESCUER Vito is actually an excellent example of a manipulative 2 – the 2 believes that they do something for you, and you do something for them. The entire system Vito establishes of offering “favors” and then one day “I will call upon you for one” is a 2 exchange of give and take. He uses it as collateral – he kills someone for you, gets you a job, ensures your survival, and then when he needs you to cover something up for him, he calls upon you to repay him in kind. It’s a farce of kindness that actually translates into power and resources, since he has people all over the place who owe him favors and who are scared of him. He coaches this in benevolent language (“Am I not your Godfather?”) but ultimately he expects a return on his investment. His 8 knows when to show dominance and aggression, and when to back off; Vito is calmly confident and competent in any situation. His 6 is careful and suspicious of others’ motives, inclined to rely heavily on good advice and willing to step aside when it’s Michael’s turn to lead, but also warm and much loved by his family. As an so/sp, he is group-oriented first (his family, which includes those under his protection) and then protective of hisresources.

ENNEAGRAM THOUGHTS
So, a few things about Enneagram. It’s called a SOUL SEARCHING SYSTEM for a reason, because you are not likely to identify your core deceit (a lie you tell yourself to justify your decisions) immediately. It takes time to self-identify, and then place things into context. For me, realizing I was a 6 shifted everything inside my head into a more appropriate understanding. It was like holding a mirror up to myself, and seeing that the lies I told myself for various decisions were really just to cover up _uncertainty_. You can read extensively about the system all you want to, but you will not land upon your core self without internal reflection and emotional honesty – the willingness to see yourself as you _truly_ are, and not through the lies you tell yourself. The people who are more honest with themselves upfront usually find their numbers the most quickly – I have known people who both landed on their correct MBTI type, and on their correct Enneagram type the first time working through both systems. They are an oddity – most people are not that honest with themselves, and that can be a jarring realization – to discover you have very little self-awareness about why you make the choices that you do. Online resources are great, as are many of the YouTube channels and amateur blogs that exist, but the best way to learn about each type in-depth is through books – Stabile and Rohr are two of the best (she’s more easily accessible, he’s more intellectual). If you wonder why, it’s because the books are written by certified professionals who have conducted many seminars, spent years or even decades studying the Enneagram, have interacted with a wide variety of types, and have adjusted their understanding of it with that in mind. The books have more room to go in-depth about the thought process and internal motivations, as well as give examples from people who are that type. It’s deeper and far more explorative into that mindset than the shorter essays, articles, and so on. (Check your library; they often carry this sort of thing, if you can’t afford to invest in your own copies.) Lastly, but more importantly, do not focus on identifying your tritype until you are certain of your core fix; you want to play an elimination game of self-discovery, identifying the ones that ‘hurt’ to read the most (when you find the right one and are intellectually open to being self-honest, you will feel exposed) and from there, narrowing it down to one type that explains “most” of your decisions. If someone were to do away with tritype tomorrow and prove it’s not real, your core should still explain “everythingabout you.”
When it comes to the lower fixes, just like I tell you to do about MBTI, you need to collect evidence to support them. When I finally was self-honest enough to accept a 2 fix instead of a coveted 4 (that should have been my clue, that I “wanted” to be 4), the same thing happened as when I found 6 – mentally, I could look back and see where I used 2 excuses to prop up 6 fear motivated decisions (often falling back on excuses of “I am needed _here_, though” since 2’s are prone to thinking they are needed more than they are). Everything sort of “clicked” and I could see my own former decisions and the tactics I use daily much more clearly. That’s what you want, is to look for a core that explains “SO MUCH” … and then fixes that are small pieces of a much bigger puzzle that is your underlining motives. This doesn’t happen overnight and it can’t be a superficial thing, or something you ask other people about, it has to be you reading, and introspecting, and asking yourself hard questions, and being open to whatever type that winds up being, even if it wasn’t a “cool” one or the one you wanted. You will know it, when you are open to being it, and it makes a lot of your former experiences and choices suddenly make sense.- ENFP Mod

I personally think it’s more useful to listen to what people say and how they say it and notice where their natural focus lies and what mistakes they usually make and why they make them… in other words, to look at how their brain works, not how they look up or down or havea “Fe” smile.

UNTIL DAWN: SAM GIDDING UNOFFICIAL TYPING by @the-ship-port FUNCTIONAL ORDER: FE-NI-SE-TI Judging Functional Axis: Extroverted Feeling(Fe)/Introverted Thinking(Ti) Sam is a very caring friend, immediately making sure that Josh is okay when she gets a moment alone with him as well as asking his best friend. During the first prank, while everyone else was likely justifying it by saying that Hannah deserved the humiliation for being a homewrecker, she adamantly opposed it, considering Hannah’s _feelings _first and foremost(Fe) and concluding that the punishment did not fit the crime(Ti). Sam, the only Fe-dom, is also the only of Josh’s “friends” to sympathize with him even after the mask comes off, perceiving that he’s “calling out for help.” Perceiving Functional Axis: Introverted iNtuition(Ni)/Extroverted Sensing(Se) Sam uses her Ni to compliment her dominant Fe, _knowing _before she even reaches the cabin that Josh is going to need a friend no matter what he says, _understanding _when no one else does that he’s in pain and worth of sympathy when his mask comes off, and _perceiving _Mike’s plan at the end of the game right away. She also has the physical dexterity to accomplish said plan, as she is an excellent climber and uses her environment to outrun the Psycho(at least for awhile)(Se).

_Thank you Charity! One thing, could the “minimizing your own needs” part be actually from my 9 core instead? As I am rather sure I am a 4-fix (I find 2s very domineering/controlling and it irks me; though I am aware 2-fixes may not be that domineering). I have read that 9s may minimize their needs as a defense mechanism. Thank you again for your time :)_ Yes, it could be part of 9. Read through the Enneagram link I shared a couple of days ago. It might help you find your fixes.- ENFP Mod

_Hi, I submitted an ask several days back about MBTI and academic interests, and I think it might have gotten lost in the flood. Sending this because I really am curious. (Original question was: what MBTI types would be drawn to what academic interests?)_ I didn’t really want to answer, since y’all take me extremely literally most of the time and there would always be someone re-blogging and saying, “BUT I HAVE THAT ACADEMIC INTEREST THO AND I AM NOT THAT TYPE.” This sort of thing is massively generalizing and based on unhelpful stereotypes. But since this is the only thing in my inbox at the moment (mostlikely)…
biology - ST, NT; chemistry - NT, ST; physics - NT, NF; mathematics -ST, NT
psychology (NF, SF, NT); criminal justice (ST, NF, NT, SF)history - SJ, NFP
languages - NTP, STJ, NFJ, SF, NJ, NFP music / art / dance - SF, NF If someone else wants to reblog and explore/explain this in depth, doit.

ELECTRICALSTORM1 asked: Hi! I was wondering if we can overuse our auxiliary function. I'm an ENTP but I am not very mentally healthy and I feel I end up using a lot o Ti (out of nervousness, kinda to control the extroverted funcions) and end up not feeling like I'm being myself. Is it possible to do this at all or am I just misinterpreting what I am doing? You are sure you are over-using it and not just “developing” it? Are you positive you are an ENTP and not an INTP? Because if so, your “over-using” is a natural and healthy product of your dominant function. If you are in Ti development, it’s natural to be focusing on it more – all you have to do is start using Ne again and you should snap out of it (or, conversely, use some Fe). Secondly, you need to analyze why you are feeling pressured to use Ti so much, if it’s your second function. Is the environment threatening to you in some way? Do you feel you can keep yourself safe through excessive use of it? Is school and/or work demanding you utilize it more than your Ne? The goal for all the types is a fully integrated being who is aware of what a healthy usage of their function looks like and who can use all of them in a single day – an unconscious shifting between them. Because frankly, you do that subconsciously all day long anyway, it’s just a matter of strengthening each function and making sure it’s performing at its best possible level. For you that looks like ideas seeking, sorting through theories, offering new perspectives, and finding fixes outside of the suggestion box (Ne), analyzing this information to understand it from the inside out and to rule out bad ideas (Ti), checking in with others to keep them in harmony with you in order to achieve success (Fe) and attentiveness to the necessarydetails (Si).

_Hi there, mods! I was wondering if you guys could help me with typing myself in terms of enneagram. I have typed myself as a 4-core for the longest time, though I always have the tendency to doubt my typing (even with MBTI) all the time. I settled on 4-core back then because I related well to it: the need to be unique (but I realised that I don’t want to stand out too much because of social anxiety and insecurity), the focus/over-amplification of negative emotions and tendency to be melancholic (especially when I went through a depressive phase), feeling of longing, desire to be authentic to myself and the world, feeling misunderstood etc. However, upon further reading I’m not sure if I am a 4, and if my core motivations are to be unique. I think I could be a 9/8. A lot of the time, I try to blend in with my environment because I don’t want to stand out too much, like I mentioned above, because of my social anxiety and insecurity. When things go bad (like real bad), I try my best to convince myself I don’t actually exist in the real world, and I live in my daydreams almost all the time. I even try to wear the most dull colours, go ‘mute’, and hope everyone plays along with my wish to be non-existent. I realised that I like to avoid conflict all the time nowadays even if it means repressing my anger. I know I do feel anger and used to have anger management issues. When I was a kid I would throw tantrums a lot, even bully a few kids, and would use anger/control to get what I wanted, but I realised nowadays I tend to just pretend I don’t have needs most of the time (sometimes I do assert myself though), and try to take up the least space and try to be ‘need-less’? Anger/conflict scares me now, I feel threatened by it, and also it just ruins the peaceful internal state I enjoy being in all the time lol, So that’s confusing definitely. I do believe I’m an sx/so if that helps at all. Tell me if more info is needed!!Thank you :)_
A lot of this could apply to several different core types, but you’re probably a 962. The 9 is the inner calm, muting of self, numbing, wanting to go unseen and invisible; the 6 is bringing in anxiety and fear of being targeted; the 2 is minimizing your own needs. If you used to have epic tantrums, you could have an 8 wing onthe 9.

INFJ OR ISFJ?
_Hi guys, I’ve been obsessed with mbti and typing for some years now, but am still not sure if I’m an isfj or infj_. To be honest, nothing stands out in this ask to me as either Si or Ni, so I don’t have an answer. (One thing that is vaguely Ni is being unable to compromise or giving up if you can’t actualize something exactly as you planned it; that’s more Ni than Ne.) Statistically, the odds of you being a sensor are higher, especially if you haven’t read anything about Ni (on this blog or elsewhere) that clicked with you in terms of “just knowing things” without having experienced them before. Ni is good at that. Mbti-notes.tumblr.com is an INFJ, and writes a lot about Ni processes, so if you haven’t read through her resources yet, start there. It’ll either make sense to you as a fellow Ni, or seem weird / highly abstract as a Si.- ENFP Mod

_How do you think an ENFP can find at least for the love of god one thing to focus on for longer than 6 days, 6 weeks or 6 months? I know with Ne as the dominant function it’s hard not to keep exploring, but .. I’m bored a lot of the time, not because of the lack of things I try (Hobbies) but because none of them I carry to the next week, let alone the next month (I will shamefully admit not even the next day in some cases). It’s becoming ridiculous and damn expensive. I’ve tried my last hobby an hour ago. The problem is I get so excited about things that I impulsively buy tools and items used by people who already nearly mastered the skill (those ISJs I bet). Next to me are 4 different sets of water colours, 2 water colouring notebooks, a big brushes kit, among other things. I painted, and after 10 minutes I thought “Cool! .. don’t want to do it anymore though). Same thing happened with Makeup, sketching, DIYs and crafts, knitting, embroidery, reading, writing, cooking and making that thing that I totally forgot the name of ( it’s when you decorate a notebook with thick papers and make it aesthetically pleasing or whatever.) Every time I think “different this time I can feel it! so I’ll go all out” but it’s all the same. It’s the excitement of something new, the possibility of it being ‘my thing’, the buying of stuff, and the idea of me having it as a hobby that brings me joy, not the thing itself because once I dip my toe in its waters, I’m done and want to go on another exciting car journey with awesome music and sunsets and snacks and gas stations on the way to another beach where I will do the same because it was about the trip not the destination._
_Oh I actually have another question. I just adore how INFPs do things for themselves .. like, they don’t even bloody care if anyone ever saw it. You walk into their bedroom and the first thing you say is “oh I didn’t know you knew how to do that” because they’re so adorably secretive with their art. WHY CANT I BE LIKE THAT? for me it has to be for someone, or a person must do it with me, or at least discuss it with me for me to be interested. Things like book clubs, group study sessions, a painting night with a friend, cooking for my sister, writing a post for a blog for other to read .. that’s the only way I could be interested in the hobbies I mentioned above. If there’s no connectivity, I find no meaning in it. It’s silent and lifeless and boring. Are all ENFPs like that? _ You asked me a question to which you already know the answer. How can anyone learn to focus on something longer than a short time? BY DOINGIT.
No one ever changes until they reach a point of disgust and decide, “This is enough.” Is this your moment? Are you sick of the empty bank account? Are you tired of people judging you for being a flake? Are you sick of seeing people roll their eyes whenever you are all excited about something, since they all know by tomorrow you’ll be“over it”?
Great!
So, are you going to engage in lower functional development now? Here’s what’s going on. You have Ne running the show. No Fi, no Te, no Si. Just Ne. Fanatical leaping from one thing to the next, zero follow through. You are all about your whims and impulses. Start slowing down. Start focusing on your lower functions. Start asking Fi to weigh in and give you a sense of purpose. It can help you pick between ideas. It can teach you to care about how you treat your time. It can teach you what you really care about and help you choose what to invest your time in. Start thinking about Te. Te is into finishing things. Having things to show for their time (a finished product). Pride in its hard-worn accomplishment. A work ethic. Te will ask things like, “Do I have time for this? Is this how I want to spend my money this month? Can I see myself still doing this in six months? Am I willing to commit to doing this for six months, long enough to get better at doing it?” Out of all those hobbies, have you found nothing you are _really passionate_ about doing? None of them kindled your heart? Or did you abandon them before Fi had a chance to fall in love? It’s normal for Ne-doms to go through different hobbies and interests, but you need to find something you care about long enough to commit to it. If I had to guess, I’d say you have a 7 in your tritype and that isn’t helping in the “follow through” department, since it means almost instant boredom with the tedium of learning a hobby. But… you are not a helpless kite caught in the wind. You can learn to control your Ne. Work on your functions. Try following through even if you aren’t “super into it.” Life isn’t just about fun; the best things come from being willing to sacrifice your time and energy to make something beautiful. It takes _time_. Envying other types will not change who you are. If “other people” is the catalyst for you sticking with a hobby, include them! Cook for other people once a week. Set up a painting session once a week. Start blogging for other people. Start doing things for others and let that be your motivating factor. That is who you are. You’re an extrovert.Embrace it.
