We plan to be back in 2021, and we hope you'll join us! Read more about the decision on our Wild Goose Chase page. In addition, the Youth Fishing Fun Day in June has also been cancelled. VISITOR SERVICES AT THE REFUGE The Blackwater NWR Visitor Center is temporarily closed, but the Wildlife Drive and trails at the Refuge are open (no fee). Spring bird walks are cancelled. SEE OUR LIVE OSPREY CAM We have a live Osprey Cam beaming video/audio from an osprey platform along the Wildlife Drive. Watch the cam to see if a pair of ospreys nest there this season. The National Wildlife Refuge System is the ONLY SYSTEM OF FEDERAL LANDS DEVOTED SPECIFICALLY TO WILDLIFE. While national wildlife refuges provide recreational opportunities for people, they also provide habitat for more than 700 species of birds, 220 species of mammals, 250 reptile and amphibian species, and more than 1,000 species of fish. More than 380 threatened or endangered plants or animals are protected on wildlife refuges. Each year, millions of migrating birds use refuges as stepping stones while they fly thousands of miles between their summer and winter homes.
