Bacopa lanigera is a Bacopa species from Brazil that looks a lot like B. caroliniana. Its emersed form has a densely hirsute stem, which is also expressed by the species name (lanigera = "carrying wool"). There is contradicting information about its suitability for aquaria. Thereis
BACOPA SALZMANNII
Bacopa salzmannii is distributed from the south of Mexico to Paraguay, where it usually grows semi-emersed on the edges of ponds and the banks of slow-flowing rivulets. This species is quite variable, and today, several groups are counted among it that were originally described as species of their own. The plant brought into the hobby asBacopa
HYDROCOTYLE SIBTHORPIOIDES Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides is a wonderful fore- and middleground plant in the aquarium. Its very special, light greyish green colour makes it a beautiful contrast to other foreground plant. It can grow quite densely and also upwards, which makes regular trimming necessary to maintain its beautiful form. When planting, just place some shoots in HYGROPHILA BALSAMICA Description: The bog plant Hygrophila balsamica is native to India and Sri Lanka. In aquaristics it has long been known but is only rarely used for aquarium decoration, as it is poisonous to fish and inverts if its emersed shoots are directly planted in the aquarium. As soon as it has assumed its submersed form it ceases to be noxious, though EICHHORNIA DIVERSIFOLIA Eichhornia diversifolia grows submersed or with floating leaves in tropical waters of Central and South America. It is known to form vast zones of floating leaves in rivers. Under optimal growing conditions, E. diversifolia is a fast grower. It needs strong light, at least 0.75watts per litre.
CABOMBA PALAEFORMIS 'GRÃœN' Cabomba palaeformis is a fanwort species found in stagnant to very slow-flowing waters in Central America. There is a green and a reddish-brown colour variety in cultivation in aquaria. The green form looks quite similar to Cabomba caroliniana. C. palaeformis is also relatively undemanding.RANALISMA ROSTRATUM
Ranalisma rostratum is a small plant from the Asian tropics and subtropics. It is often sold under the grammatically incorrect name "Ranalisma rostrata". When kept emersed, the leaves of R. rostratum are roundish, with a stalk, and the short inflorescence often consists of a single flower, from which a rather large erinaceous aggregatefruit
LEPTODICTYUM RIPARIUM Description: In aquaristics, the name Leptodictyum riparium (or Amblystegium riparium) is commonly used for the upright-growing "stringy moss". However, populations of L. riparium native to Germany have a very different appearance even when kept under the sameconditions.

Potamogeton gayi is a delicate narrow-leaved pondweed species quite widely spread in the south of South America outside the tropics (Southern Brazil, Argentine). There it grows submersed in stagnant and flowing waterbodies. Potamogeton gayi has long been known in the aquarium hobby as it is a robust fast grower, however, more recentlyits
SALVINIA OBLONGIFOLIA The largest Salvinia species is Salvinia oblongifolia, with up to 6 cm long and 2.5 cm wide leaves. It inhabits shallow stagnant waterbodies in Central and Eastern Brazil. This floating fern was already cultivated in Germany in 1910/11, butBACOPA CAROLINIANA

Several forms of this species are in cultivation, among others a smalle CRYPTOCORYNE AFFINIS Cryptocoryne affinis Hook. f. is distributed on the Malayan Peninsula (western Malaysia). It forms dense, mainly submersed populations on sand- and gravelbanks in rapidly flowing rivers and rivulets. Some of them lie in limestone areas. This species was so widely spread in the hobby in earlier times that it was considered to be "the"Cryptocoryne.
POGOSTEMON ERECTUS
Description: Pogostemon erectus was originally collected for aquaristical purposes in the western Indian state Maharashtra, and it was presented under the erronous name "Rotala verticillaris". During the last years it has been used in many aquaria - mainly in the USA, but increasingly in Europe, too. At first glance, it looks a lot likeRotala
