TOYS STORIES: RE-HAVE FUN! Like any child of my age, I love toys and I love playing. I used to watch YouTube videos about brand new colorful plastic toys and, as I couldn’t have all of them, I thought about designing my own toys. I started collecting waste materials at home and realized that the most important thing I needed was IMAGINATION. Household waste has doubled in weight since 1970 and stayed at a high level since 15 years. In 2018, 492 kg of municipal waste were generated per person in the EU Member States (EU-27, average. COVID-19 UPDATE:
Our trusted collaborators – our coordinators, volunteers, participants, and supporters – are the heart and soul of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). In fact, the EWWR is the coming together of passionate, hard-working people fighting for a world with less waste. But in times like these, we must do our part to ensure that Covid-19 is contained. We, like many others, must engage in social distancing. This means that we have to put the Awards Ceremony (originally scheduled for 2 June) on hold for the time being. Once we have news about this, we will update you through our channels. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE AWARDS EWWR 2019 FOCUSES ON WASTE EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION Having access to reliable information about the impact of consumption and waste generation on the environment is an essential precursor to changing one’s behaviour and daily habits surrounding these issues. For EWWR 2019, we challenged participants to educate themselves and others about waste and to put that knowledge into practice by changing their daily consumption habits in order to reduce their waste. Our theme for last year was WASTE EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION and we rallied support under the slogan CHANGE YOUR WAYS, REDUCE YOUR WASTE. Learn more about last year’s theme and consult our ideas for activities and thematic materials on the designated page on the EWWRwebsite .
You can also explore the themes of our previous editions here.
3RS AND A CLEAN-UP
The actions carried out during the EWWR address the “3Rs”: Reduce waste, Reuse products, Recycle material. The “3Rs” represent the options which should be considered first when elaborating a waste management strategy or when seeking to reduce your waste.FIND OUT MORE
