MIRANDA 16X50
Two of everything usually equals poorly aligned prisms in the optical path. Anything above 12x will be a pain to hold steady for anything longer than a few minutes. A decent set of 10*50 and you are sorted. The 15*70's require a tripod, I am 6'3 and barn door. Pete has a pair of these beauties but you would need some support. Quote. Link topost.
EZCAP_QT - GENERAL ASTRONOMY DISCUSSION - EAST MIDLANDS I notice this software is available now but I cant find out much about it except it says its cross platform. I downloaded it but it wont recognise my QHY8L it does however recognise my QHY5L II. It looks like a slightly more polished version of EZCAP does anyone else have experience of this versi DEEP SKY SOFTWARE FOR ZWO CAMS? I think you'll get better results sticking with the Canon for DSOs. The ZWO will do it but I'd see it as a waste of precious imaging time! ALL SKY CAM ENCLOSURE (ASI120MM) Ive had a few goes with my ASI120MM as an all sky cam (using the supplied lens) but never had enough confidence in the British weather to leave it outside all night. So Im going to make a waterproof enclosure suitable to leave it outside overnight HOW TO ALIGN SCOPE IN STELLARIUM.... polar align your mount first Phil, then once done you can start your programs either CDC or Stellarium, click on the star you want to slew to and press Ctrl and 1 at the same time and it`ll slew to the star, when you look through the scope or imaging camera it will be off alittle or in my case alot, then if your imaging put the red cross hair reticule on in APT and 1 or 2 second exposures to 2 INCH BAADER SEMI APO FILTER. I have recently bought a Baader semi apo filter for use with my Evostar 150. As we all know too well, we are always trying to find ways of improving the equipment that we have and having read many reviews (some good and some not) i thought that i would take the plunge and buy 2 inch version of this filter to enable me to put it into the diagonal to save faffing in the dark when changing eyepieces. RASPBERRY PI WITH ASI120MC CAMERA Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Rather than discussing this on the "Latest Purchases" thread I have created this one to record my progress in making a hand held AVI capture device for my ASI120MC. The Raspberry Pi I am using is a Model B and I have fitted a 2.8" TFT LCD display. I am connecting the ASI120MC to the USB port on the RaspberryPi

SOLAR ECLIPSE 10 JUNE 2021 Greetings one and all. Id describe this mornings eclipse as a typical UK astro event, ie almost completely clouded out, bar a few tantalising glimpses here and there. I did have a very brief, and i mean a 10 second brief opportunity to image it, but the brightness of it in the viewfinder dazzled SOLAR FROM THIS EVENING 09.06.2021 After doing the final prep for tomorrow I decided to see what the image would turn out like using the Point Grey capture software. Frame rate was very slow need to investigate that further. The file was saved as an AVI but for some reason Registax would not run it. I had to put it through PIPP an SOLAR IN WHITE LIGHT 06/06/2021- GETTING PREPPED FOR THE Taken with a home-made solar filter using Baader Astro Solar film, my Altair 72 EDR scope and Altair GPCAM 290C camera. 700 frames stacked in Auto Staakert and sharpened in Registax. False colour added to the 2nd image in Photoshop DSO TARGETS FOR 2021 My targets for 2021 will mainly be to take and process better images of previous targets but add a few that Ive missed so far! A new one for me was quickly imaged by me just before Christmas and that is NGC 891. This was only 10 x 120s and way off centre so a much better imageis just waiting to
HEQ5 PRO POLAR ALIGNMENT WITH SYNSCAN Im not new to astronomy by any means, having got my first telescope for my eleventh birthday over fifty years ago. Just recently, though, I acquired my very first GOTO mount, an HEQ5 Pro SynScan and I here I am a complete beginner. My questions are to do with polar alignment - CHARLES FRANK NEWTONIANS I have the original early 1970s Charles Frank catalog showing the ebay model you are interested in. It has loads of info on it. The scope is an 8 and a half inch F6 and in its day was much sought after. As Phil says it is basic but well built and weighs a ton. It was £409.20pnew in about 1971.
CONTROLLING SCOPE WITH STELLARIUM PROBLEM Just set your mount up as normal, align etc. Once all that is done, just plug the cable into the bottom of the hand controller and run Stellarium (if not already running). If you have set up Stellarium correctly, then when you select an object, just press ctrl+1 and the scope will slew to the target. It is a two way street, you will see a WILLIAM OPTICS REDCAT 51 I will let you know how it goes, I think that I will get it in early April so don't hold your breath. Unfortunately I was faffing around and when I was about to book the conference tickets I discovered that the there were no places left. REGISTAX - WHAT'S THE LARGEST IMAGE SIZE THAT CAN BE I took some lunar shots with my camera at 18MP. Tried to stack 12 of them, but got out of memory errors, with tiifs and raw. Tried stacking just 6 and had same problem. Has anyone got any experience of what itll handle? Doesnt help that its a 32 bit app and can only address 4GB
PINCHED OPTICS
Posted February 5, 2012 (edited) Hi Steve, The pinched optics are very common on these scopes, my old 102ED (which was basically a megrez under a different name), doublet had the same problem, the 3 screws around the perimeter were pinching when temperatures dropped and gave a strange but quite attractive set of diffraction spikes. Yup - that's how I do it as well. The WO binoviewers are the best ones under £200 - I've seen them sell around £100 s/h which is a bargain (assuming good condition and working order).
