New Years Eve is just around the corner, and we’ll be taking the kids to see the fireworks over Sydney Harbour for the first time. They are super excited! TOILET PAPER ROLL DOLLS Toilet Paper Roll Dolls. Danya Banya September 9, 2012 3. If you’ve ever watched Play School, then you’ve probably been inspired to make the odd Toilet Paper Roll Doll, or in my case, about the three dozen! Here are the first ones that I made in December 2011. This paper mache (papier-mâché) princess castle was one of them. 🙂 We made this princess castle back in 2014, when JJ was almost 4 years old. It’s not the fanciest castle in the world, but it was fun to make, and JJ loved it. THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR INSPIRED CARDBOARD ROLL Remember the Very Hungry Caterpillar toy that I made out of toilet paper rolls the other day that JJ didn’t want to make? Well, I thought I would try a different tack – so I suggested we paint a Very Hungry Caterpillar using the cardboard rolls instead of apaintbrush.

JJ asked for some binoculars, so I whipped up these up using a few toilet paper rolls, a hot glue gun and some kitchen twine. Took all of about 1 minute. A great prop for pretending to be an explorer, a pirate or a perhaps spectator at the tennis. Now (spoiler alert) they don’t have TOILET PAPER ROLL DOLLS Toilet Paper Roll Dolls. Danya Banya September 9, 2012 3. If you’ve ever watched Play School, then you’ve probably been inspired to make the odd Toilet Paper Roll Doll, or in my case, about the three dozen! Here are the first ones that I made in December 2011. The dolls’ house was being discarded by a neighbour in the local council DIY ORANGE SKIN BIRD FEEDERS It’s autumn in Australia at the moment, and we’ve all had sniffles. The girls squeezed some fresh orange juice as a little vitamin C boosting treat, and I made these DIY bird feeders from the orange skin left over. To make this pair of orange skin bird feeders, I used: 1 orange sharp knife 2 pairs of takeaway-style wooden chopsticks kitchen twine (or string) wild bird seed I cut the orange THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR INSPIRED CARDBOARD ROLL The Very Hungry Caterpillar inspired cardboard roll paintings. Danya Banya March 13, 2014 17. Remember the Very Hungry Caterpillar toy that I made out of toilet paper rolls the other day that JJ didn’t want to make? Well, I thought I would try a different tack – so I suggested we paint a Very Hungry Caterpillar using the cardboard rolls 9 REASONS TO GATHER NATURAL MATERIALS FOR ART & CRAFT Art and craft supplies don’t all have to come from a store. April 30, 2016 (2:59 PM) # Thanks Amah, and what a great question. I guess my answer would depend on the age of your child and the sort of books you're reading… I've been kinda lucky in that my kids have always been avid readers (even when they were tiny babies, they both adored books). When they were really little (under a year), I never read stories, instead we looked at thousands of books that had clear pictures, and we'd point to this and that, and I'd 'narrate' based on whatever my child was focusing on. We'd ask questions and ponder, so that the reading experience was more interactive. We only progressed to reading the actual words in storybooks when they were toddlers, and we started with very simple predictable story lines. (A lot of books designed for this young age have very abstract concepts in them, which I think are actually more designed to entertain the parents than the child). Doesthat help?
Otherwise, here are a few posts that deal with comprehension for older kids, maybe one of these might help… http://www.fantasticfunandlearning.com/comprehens… http://mosswoodconnections.com/activities-for-rea… http://growingbookbybook.com/modeling-comprehensi…Reply

December 24, 2016 (10:07 AM) #Hi Khalid,
I’m so glad that you enjoy reading our activities. JJ is much bigger – she’s 6.5 years old now. She still does lots of our activities, but sometimes she prefers not to be included in the photos, and I respect her choice. But every now and again she lets me include a photo – you’ll just have to keep an eye out.Reply

February 21, 2018 (11:33 AM) # Hi Suda, so great to hear from you. How exciting to be teaching 4+ & 7+ year olds – they’re both great ages for art & craft! You’ll find loads of activities on here. Probably your best bet is to look at the activity lists by ages – that’s a good starting point. I also have lots of great ideas on my pinterest boards (pinterest.com/danyabanya) if you’re after more. Have fun, and goodluck!
