The date has been put back from 25 June due to the Euro THE MOST WANTED CRIME NOVELS OF 2021 The Edge of the Grave by Robbie Morrison. The comic book writer behind the Nikolai Dante series has written his first crime novel, setting it in his native Glasgow during the brutal years of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Banks, now a detective superintendent, is jaded and admits he is feeling a bit sad and old when he slips away for a pint with his son Brian DANISH CRIME DRAMA BLINDED: THOSE WHO KILL COMES TO BBC The culprit was never caught, but now Alice has terminal cancer and she feels Louise is her last hope for justice. That’s the set-up for the latest series of Those Who Kill, which begins airing at 9pm on Saturday 8 May on the UK’s BBC Four, appearing two days later to stream via Acorn TV in the US. It follows on from the 2019 series FRENCH CRIME DRAMA TIME IS A KILLER COMING TO WALTER Here’s a new crime show that will be of interest to anyone who enjoys their French crime fiction. Set in sunny Corsica, Time is a Killer will take you far away from the gritty streets of Paris, as seen in Spiral, and from the gloomy shores of Normandy that were so atmospheric in Witnesses.The subtitled intrigue begins in the 11pm crime slot on Channel 4 on Sunday 16 May, but UK crime fiction THE HUNTER – ITALIAN CRIME SHOW COMES TO WALTER PRESENTS The Italian crime show The Hunter falls into that last category. The year is 1993. The setting is Southern Italy. There’s a war being fought between the forces of justice and the Mafia. TRUE CRIME STORY BY JOSEPH KNOX True Crime Story is Joseph Knox’s fourth novel. It’s his first standalone after three instalments of his urban noir series featuring Detective Constable Aidan Watts of Greater Manchester Police. The ‘true’ in the title and the ‘novel’ in the subtitle immediately establish a tension between fact and fiction and the relationship between the two is essential to the experience Knox THE RISE OF WELSH CRIME FICTION For example, Bev Jones’s 2020 novel Wilderness is a psychological thriller about a deadly road trip across California, Utah and Arizona. Philip Gwynne Jones couldn’t have a more Welsh name but his Nathan Sutherland series is set in Venice. Meanwhile, Chris Lloyd’s new mystery, The Unwanted Dead, takes place in World War II France. However, there is a widening clan of authors whose DEAD GROUND BY MW CRAVEN Mike Craven certainly knows how to open a novel. The first chapter of Black Summer, from earlier in the Tilly and Poe series, still sticks in my mind and makes me cringe.Dead Ground is the English author’s latest and it features a doozy too.
