CRAFTYPOD
CraftyPod started as a podcast back in 2005, and after adding a blog in '06, was my online home for ten years. Here, I explored creativity, the ins and outs of running my small design and writing business, andmy life as a maker.

Today, I'll share a nice time-saving method for basting hexagons. You start with fabric squares that you've cut with your ruler and rotary cutter, and then you baste those squares right to your hexietemplates.
CRAFTYPOD
This design showed up in my sketchbook a long time ago, but I resisted making it because I really don't need another pincushion. But I do have a pretty serious yo-yo habit, and finally broke down when I couldn't resist playing with my yo-yo maker any longer.CRAFTYPOD
So, I love making these little guys – it's just the most relaxing, serendipitous process of creation. Yours will be 100% different than mine, and that's really wonderful.CRAFTYPOD
This is one of those projects that had many points of genesis. First, I've been decluttering lately and got rid of all my assorted vases. Then someone gave me flowers, and I was all, "Oh crap, I have nothing nice to put these in." And then, given that I'm making quilts like crazy these days, I've been wishing for a really quick EPP project torelax with.
HOW TO MAKE STIFFENED FABRIC JEWELRY This project is a real example of crafty serendipity. I've been noodling with this stiffened-fabric idea since June, but with one thing and another and another, haven't gotten around to posting it.CRAFTYPOD
I loves me some of those old-school composition books. Last August, our local Fred Meyer had them on sale for 25 cents apiece for back-to-school, and K and I laid in a stock to get us well into our old age.. I've been noodling with ways to make them look prettier. HOW TO MAKE A PIN-SHARPENING PIN CUSHION I want to think that some Victorian pincushions were filled with "brush combings" the hair you clean from your brush and save in a little box on your dresser -- only in a Victorian home :) Anyway, I'm wondering if this would work -- I know you can sharpen needles by running them through your hair. WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR HAND-SEWING THREAD KNOTS UP The very first thing we must do to prevent thread knots is to thread the needle in the correct direction! When you unspool your thread for hand sewing you must always thread the end THAT YOU JUST CUT into theeye of the needle.
HOW TO MAKE A TABLE RUNNER FROM PLASTIC CANVAS CIRCLES Most big-box craft stores carry these intriguing PC circles, and they're handy for lots of projects. I love this table runner for itsfree-formness.

HOW TO MAKE A GIFT BOX FROM AN OLD GREETING CARD! I was teaching a card-making class over the weekend, and the nicest woman ever said to me, "Have you tried making boxes from your old cards?" Well, I hadn't, so she showed me the coolest method for converting an old greeting card into a spanking little gift box. THE GRANDMOTHER'S CUTTING GARDEN QUILT: A NEW ENGLISH So, if you get into English paper piecing, sooner or later you'll discover the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. It's an old design, dating back to the 1930's, that involves a quilt top pieced entirely from little hexagons, all arranged in a pretty flower pattern. HOW TO MAKE A NEEDLEPOINT PENDANT (YES! WITH PLASTIC Well, I didn't do so well with the rattail. With the 2mm size, there's no way to put it through the holes twice, even with 7-mesh. I'm trying out some nice metallic variegated ribbon yarn and that's working upnicely.

Then someone gave me flowers, and I was all, "Oh crap, I have nothing nice to put these in." And then, given that I'm making quilts like crazy these days, I've been wishing for a really quick EPP project torelax with.

Yours will be 100% different than mine, and that's really wonderful. HOW TO MAKE STIFFENED FABRIC JEWELRY Saturate a square of fabric in the stiffener, and lightly wipe away the excess. There should be a film of stiffener over the surface, but you should be able to see the pattern through that. Place the square face down on that plastic-wrapped surface.

HOW TO MAKE A PLASTIC CANVAS GEM ORNAMENT This tutorial is basically an act of sheer determination. As some of you know, I started a part-time job recently, and while that's a very good thing, it's also been quite an adjustment – particularly when it comes to creating blog content. TUMBLER FISH: A FREE EPP PATTERN FOR YOUR PIECING PLEASURE I couldn't resist adding my two cents to the EPP Borders Blog Hop, even though I wasn't an official participant.. I closed CraftyPod in 2015. You're now looking at a simplified version, containing a sampling of my design and instructional writing. I've done my best to make sure all links are working, but the internet moves quickly. (And please keep in mind that at one time, a 2 megapixel camera was state-of-the-art.) I hope you enjoy this bit of time travel!Read On?
