Good leaders drive consensus by extracting different opinions and views, listening carefully for threads of agreement, and then clarifying a way forward. WHY REOPENING A CHURCH IS DIFFERENT Alex Shanks says the question of whether to reopen is different for a church than for other institutions. Rather than just reacting to what others are doing, churches need to model responsible decision making and exceed basic health guidelines to protect the most vulnerable. 5 STEPS TO CHURCH VITALITY AND TURNAROUND It is the gift of eyes of faith to see the invisible, to know the unknowable, to think the unthinkable, to experience the “not yet.”. It is our vision that draws us forward. 2. Own It. “Owning it” speaks to the way that vision is shared across the organization. Attend to the faith formation of existing members. Willingness to share faith and reach out to others develops as one grows in faith and discipleship. THE MUTUAL BENEFITS OF CHURCH-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS Churches can provide schools with human resources through the work of trained and passionate volunteers. They can act as mentors, after-school volunteers, classroom assistants, and the like. They can provide support, encouragement, and learning to students in a committed fashion. Resources. Churches can provide schools withmaterial resources.
7 THINGS TO DO WHEN A CHURCH IS IN DECLINE Ask for inside and outside opinions. This takes guts but is critically necessary. Ask visitors. Recruit a “secret shopper” attendee to give you an objective look at the church. Evaluate even if you are afraid to know the answers. Churches can avoid this all-too-common problem by formulating a plan to address property renewal and replacement needs on an ongoing basis, and by dedicating sources of income to provide for these needs.
