ON UNUSUAL CHOICES
If you're keeping up with the year-long reading plan of the whole Bible, you're in Joshua now. One of the stories from Joshua that I never get tired of comes early on in the book, in chapter 2.. The Israelites are camped east of the Jordan River, poised to enter thePromised
PICKING SIDES
There's a great little story in the book of Joshua that I really like. It's in Joshua 5:13-15, and is connected to the Israelites' conquest of the Promised Land, although at first look, it may not seem to figure very heavily in the story. It's sort of wedged between the mass circumcision of the Israelite males (ouch!) after crossing the Jordan and the actual beginning of military operations.WORDS AND PHRASES
Anyone who has spent even a small amount of time around "church people," soon realizes that there are certain words and phrases that Christians love to say.BACKHANDED PRAYER
I wonder how often we pray "backhanded prayers"? In other words, are our prayers for others, and particularly for our leaders and authorities genuine and sincere prayers for them? Or might it be rightly said that our prayers are about them but not necessarily for them? Do our prayers take the shape of something like this: "Dear Lord, please show ol' so-and-so what an idiot they are."? A SUFFERING WE CAN RELATE TO The New Testament writings make it clear that the first Christians were well acquainted with suffering. Paul, James and Peter often wrote of the importances of persevering during these times of persecution. DON'T LET THE KOSMOKRATOR'S GET YOU DOWN The moment that we begin to segment our lives into parts that are effected by our faith and parts that are not, the kosmokrator's have won.As soon as we begin to ignore the revolutionary, profoundly altering life that Jesus has saved us into, the kosmokrator's have won. When we are defined by CLICHES AND COFFEE MUGS Most of us have heard the saying "'Tis better to give than to receive". In fact, not only have most of us heard the saying, but we've experienced its truth at various times. YouOVERCOMING RIOTS
During these riots, there was a particularly interesting image (at least to me). While the rioters carried on with clubs, bandanas and knives, there was another group staging an entirely different typemovement.
CELEBRATION BIBLE CHURCH: FEBRUARY 2012 I don't know about you, but we've been getting a lot of extra calls at our house lately! The good news is that after today, I suspect they'll stop. The reason I think that is that these extra calls have all been about the Michigan's presidential primary election, which is today, (so tomorrow, it'll be a moot point!) CELEBRATION BIBLE CHURCH Beginning in April 2016 the Celebration Bible Church sermon podcast can be found on Soundcloud and iTunes. The reason I think that is that these extra calls have all been about the Michigan's presidential primary election, which is today, (so tomorrow, it'll be a moot point!) ON BEING CHARISMATIC So, the advice of the elders in 1 Kings 12 is more than wise on just a political or public relations scaleit is godly advice and we see this sense of service to others carried forward into the New Testament. THEIR EXODUS, OUR EXODUS: PART 2 Suddenly, that whole rescue plan thing wasn't looking so good. But God stayed involved. During this time of exile God spok through various 'prophets' who again and again proclaimed that, though Israel was currently down, God was not done. EASY WORK | CELEBRATION BIBLE CHURCH And this makes Jesus' promise in Matthew chapter 11 very odd. Towards the end of the chapter, Jesus makes one of his most famous statements when he says "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT... At Celebration, this is a foundational part of who we are. When our church began (20 years ago this year!) an emphasis on worship through various forms of the arts was built into our identity. THE MUNDANE AND THE OBVIOUS The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. This is from The Message, a paraphrase-translation of the Bible from Pastor Eugene Peterson. One of the Pharisees asked him over for a meal.HUMANITY, NOT RACE
Amid all of the great days and people that we celebrate as a nation, for American Christians, this should have special significance. The movement that Reverend King led had its roots not in arrogance and violence but in the Biblical truth that all people are made in the image of God and because of that, should be treated as special andvaluable beings.
ANOTHER KING?
For the next two weeks, our Sunday morning teachings are going to focus on Acts 17. But we'd be crazy to think we could fit all the amazing stuff from that chapter into two sermons. CELEBRATION BIBLE CHURCH: NOVEMBER 2011 When we hear the word "Leviticus," we tend to slip into state of numbness. Perhaps we are reminded of that one time we tried to read through the Bible in a year and were water logged sometime in February after 3 days of reading the finite details of the priestly garmentsand lampposts.

STILL RUMINATING
It's been a fun week, because one of my favorite miracles of Jesus has been in the Bible reading for 3 days straight! (Luke's account on Sunday, Marks version yesterday and Matthew's today) The event in question is the time Jesus brought back to life the 12-year-old daughter of one of the synagogue rulers.ANOTHER KING?
