Polka Spotlight is the premiere Polka show in the state of Minnesota! Polka Spotlight records at the CCX Create Studio on the second Saturday each month 1:00pm to 5:00pm. BROOKLYN PARK LIONS KICK OF 'WORLD'S LARGEST' SMELT FRY Spring time in Brooklyn Park is not complete without the Brooklyn Park Lions throwing its annual smelt fry. Wednesday at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center, the Brooklyn Park Lions kicked off the 58th Annual “World’s Largest” Smelt Fry. The Lions had to postpone the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so organizers were excited to resume the tradition this year. FIRE DAMAGES MAPLE GROVE HOMES, COUPLE SAY THEY ARE 'LUCKY A fire broke out Monday at around 4:30 a.m. that damaged three single-family homes in the southeast part of Maple Grove. Mitchell and Stephanie Rogalsky lived in one of the homes. BROOKLYN PARK MAYOR SPECIAL ELECTION 2021 Lisa Jacobson, Hollies Winston Win Brooklyn Park Special Election Primary. Hollies Winston and Lisa Jacobson will advance to the special election for mayor of Brooklyn Park on August 10. Hollies Winston collected the most votes with 1854 and Lisa Jacobson had 1291. The winning candidate in August will fill the remaining time in JeffLunde’s term.

The same developer sued the city of Plymouth after the city council denied a previous, similar application due to traffic concerns and a lack of green space. NEW DUAL SPANISH/ENGLISH IMMERSION SCHOOL PROPOSED FOR NEW New Dual Spanish/English Immersion School Proposed for New Hope. The New Hope City Council is expected to vote later this month on plans for a new charter school. The proposal would convert space at 47th and Zealand Avenues into a new K-8 dual Spanish-English immersion school. New Hope Church currently owns the property. POLICE UNION PENS 'OPEN LETTER TO BROOKLYN CENTER' The police union that represents officers in Brooklyn Center has penned an “open letter to the community.” Chuck Valleau, acting president of Local #82, which represents rank and file officers of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, expressed condolences for the Daunte Wright family as well as a sense of grief over former officer Kim Potter, who served the community for 25 years. BROOKLYN PARK VOTES DOWN ALLOWING CHICKENS, POTBELLIED The Brooklyn Park City Council says no. The vote was 5-2. The council had considered Monday night whether to allow homeowners to keep up to four chickens in their back yard, as well as one potbellied pig. Under the proposed ordinance change, chicken coops would need to be placed at least 10 feet from property lines and 30 feet from adjacent homes. On Friday, MDH announced 1,306 new cases and 9 deaths attributed to COVID-19. That brings the state’s total since the pandemic started to 592,750 cases and 7,283 deaths. MAPLE GROVE APPROVES CITY’S FIRST FOOD TRUCK ORDINANCE The Maple Grove City Council approved on Monday the city’s first food truck ordinance. The ordinance, which goes into effect in 2022, comes at a time when the popularity of food trucks has skyrocketed.. The new ordinance would essentially put into code how food trucks can operate in the city. PLYMOUTH BREAKS GROUND ON NEW FIRE STATION, RENOVATES Over the last couple of years, the city of Plymouth has transitioned to a 24/7 fire staffing model.That system relies on both full-time and paid-on-call firefighters. Plymouth officials say the change was necessary as its population and call volumes grew. WATER CLARITY TREATMENTS BEGIN ON CRYSTAL LAKE IN The city of Robbinsdale and the Shingle Creek Watershed Commission started work to improve water clarity on Crystal Lake on Thursday..
