It’s the end of February, and I’ve pulled over on Route 221, heading southwest out of Linville between the majestic Grandfather Mountain and the equally impressive Linville PPPC - THE JACKSON FAMILY - CAPITAL AT PLAY PPPC – The Jackson Family. January 2013. It’s a hot Sunday in July. Drivers simmer in puddles of perspiration, their sweltering cars waiting for the go signal. Encased in racing garb —fireproof clothing and full-face helmets —the discomfort would be unbearable if it weren’t for the adrenaline coursing through their veins. IN THE MOUTH OF THE WILSON In a honey-smooth drawl that stretches vowels like saltwater taffy, High Country natives often describe themselves as being “in the mouth of the Wilson.”.
