FAQ - THE CAIRNGORM REINDEER HERD Unfortunately, our reindeer don’t eat carrots, preferring their natural diet of heather, sedges, lichens, blaeberry and birch. We also feed them a carefully balanced cereal-based supplementary feed, so they’re very well fed. Scroll down to content CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 22/03/20 In light of current developments, we will unfortunately BE COMPLETELY CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC AS OF 23RD MARCH 2020. As the situation is so unknown, we cannot currently give a date for reopening, but hopefully we will survive long enough to be able to open again once restrictions are lifted, whenever that may be. Without our Hill Trips, the bulk of our income, vital to the upkeep of the herd, has vanished. We appreciate that these are incredibly difficult times for everyone, but if you do feel able to financially support us, please consider adopting a reindeer. As with the
Foot-and-Mouth outbreak in 2001 which forced us to close temporarily, it’s times like these that the adoption scheme is vital to our survival as a business. We have also set up a donate button, if you would like to support us with a one-off amount of your choice: We do want to highlight that we are not a charity, but all funds raised will go directly to continuing to care for the reindeer herd. Good luck to all and thanks for your continued support, we’ll see you on the other side!
