URGENT ACTION IS NEEDED, SAY VETS, AS NEW STATISTICS SHOW BVA is calling for urgent action after shocking new statistics from the BVA Voice survey reveal that nearly 6 in 10 vets have seen dogs with cropped ears in practice during the last year, despite the mutilation being illegal. Action to end the import of dogs with cropped ears is more urgent than BVA POLICY - SHEEP CASTRATION, TAIL DOCKING, AND PAIN It is essential for sheep health and welfare, that any procedures having the potential to create pain and suffering should be balanced against the need for that procedure. Castration and tail-docking are sometimes routine husbandry procedures and, because they are painful, efforts must be made to reduce their use, especially where there are alternative management techniques. We know that concerns regarding imported, non-endemic disease are not new.
