In 2021, our focus will be on brain health and the role proteins play in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and dementia, and will include partnering with two up and coming scientists at the Buck. Membership to the Impact Circle is $5,000. This event is open to both Impact Circle members and interested friends. We look forward to seeing you!VERDIN LAB - BUCK
Understanding epigenetic regulators of the aging process. The Verdin lab studies the relationship between aging and the immune system. Aging is associated with defects in the adaptive immune system and with a state of chronic activation of the innate immune system (chronic inflammation). We study how immune aging is regulated bynutrition.
THE FIRST NON-INVASIVE BIOMARKER TO TRACK AND VERIFY Oxylipin biosynthesis reinforces cellular senescence and allows detection of senolysis. This biomarker is a unique signaling lipid metabolite, normally exclusively intracellular, but is released when senescent cells are forced to die. This metabolite is detectible in BUCK INSTITUTE NAMES MALENE HANSEN AS CHIEF SCIENTIFIC Buck Institute Names Malene Hansen as Chief Scientific Officer. The Buck Institute for Research on Aging is pleased to announce the appointment of Malene Hansen PhD to the position of Professor and Chief Scientific Officer. She will begin her transition to the Buck on February 1, 2021 and fully assume the position effective August 1,2021.
CELLULAR SENESCENCE IS ASSOCIATED WITH AGE-RELATED BLOOD Publishing in the September 24 edition of Cell Reports, researchers at the Buck Institute identified 44 specific senescence-associated proteins that are involved in blood clotting, marking the first time that cellular senescence has been associated with age-related bloodclots.
A METABOLITE PRODUCED BY THE BODY INCREASES LIFESPAN AND Middle-aged mice that had the naturally-occurring metabolite alpha-ketaglutarate (AKG) added to their chow had a better “old age.” They were healthier as they aged and experienced a dramatically shorter time of disease and disability before they MEMORY LOSS ASSOCIATED WITH ALZHEIMER'S REVERSED FOR FIRST The study, which comes jointly from the UCLA Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research and the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, is the first to suggest that memory loss in patients may be reversed, and improvement sustained, using a complex, 36-point therapeutic program that involves comprehensive changes in diet, brain SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING PRACTICE: ASKING QUESTIONS STEAM ENGINE Teacher Guide: Asking Questions STEAM ENGINE Science and Engineering Practice: Asking Questions The purpose of this video is to provide students with an example of how a Latest information on Coronavirus (COVID-19)Entry________
