The rumor mill was rife with speculation at UA’s Myers School of Art of an eminent shut down because of the coronavirus (COVID-19). While a pandemic wasn’t unprecedented, it certainly wasn’t anything I thought I would actually live through ABOUT THE BUCHTELITE Founded in 1889, The Buchtelite is a student-operated newspaper and website that publishes online with select print publications throughout the school year. The student newspaper receives no money from The University of Akron, relying on advertising sales to support its operations. The University generously provides rent-free office space in Kolbe Hall, Suite 208.ADVERTISING

COVID-19 has significantly impacted billions of people, as major changes to routines and hobbies have had to take place, and people have started to develop new hobbies during the pandemic to alleviate the HOW PASSIONS, VALUES, AND GOALS SHAPE YOUR CAREER How passions, values, and goals shape your career. If your interests and values are well-matched to your field of study, then you are likely to be happy and successful. But for many students, interests change over time, passions are discovered or lost, and the old job may no longer seem such a good fit. If you are in this position, a good THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF PHOTOSHOP In today’s world, the excessive use of Photoshop can be found in the majority of the photos we see. From advertisements to magazines, we are endlessly surrounded by unrealistic images. In a society that promotes a flawless physique and features as the “norm,” young girls and women often feel the pressure to conform to the SPECIAL: “WHY I’M PROUD TO BE BLACK” The month of February marks Black History Month, a time to remember the generations of African Americans that persevered to obtain their citizenship. To celebrate the month, The Buchtelite interviewed students asking them why they are proud to be black. Adey Abeba “I’m proud to be who I am. I’m proud to be part of ART VS. GRAPHIC DESIGN According to Vogl, the main difference between the fields concerns the role each plays. The purpose of design is to aid, whereas art should be able to be philosophized. “Design is very clear in its point, where art can be intentionally vague,” Vogl said. The art of composition in the two fields, according to Vogl, is essentially thesame.

The University of Akron Women’s Swimming and Diving team, ranked No. 25 in the nation, won its seventh consecutive Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship title on Feb. 29.
