BTC GOES INTERNATIONAL! Charles Mansueto and Ruth Golomb traveled to Mexico City to spread the word about the Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment model (ComB) for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), such as hair pulling and skin picking disorders. Leading psychiatrists and psychologists as well as up-and-coming clinicians from throughout Mexico came to attend a two-day intensive training workshop offered by TLC’s Professional Training Institute on September 21-22 in Mexico City. We are encouraged by this indication of the growing awareness of the prevalence of individuals struggling with BFRBs worldwide and by the enthusiastic response from this amazing group of professionals to gain the requisite knowledge and skills to meet their evolving needs! We enjoyed attending the 26th annual International OCD Foundationconference
in Austin! Our clinicians presented to professionals, families, and sufferers of all ages on topics ranging from the interactions between OCD and Tic Disorders (e.g., “Tourettic OCD”), how to improve the treatment outcomes of individuals with BFRBs, and teenagers confronting their fears of offending others. We had a blast meeting somany people!
GROUPS:
Drs. Gloria Mathis and Michael Lent continue to run their OCD and Anxiety Exposure Group that involves “field trips” for In Vivo exposure activities. Our Disruptive Behavior Management Program , under the direction of Dr. Noah Weintraub, is intended for children with OCD, Tourette’s or an anxiety disorder in combination with externalizing behaviors (e.g., anger outbursts, defiance), and is appropriate for families in which PANS/PANDAS is suspected. This program involves a structuredparenting group.
We continue to offer a G.O.A.L. (Giving Obsessive-Compulsives Another Lifestyle) group. The GOAL groupis a
professional-assisted group, meaning that while a therapist is present at every meeting, the group is run by members. The group is free and is open to all OCD sufferers whether clients of the clinic or not.
