COVID-19: STATUS OF AURA OPERATIONS AND FACILITIES NOIRLab COVID-19 Update. Starting in mid-October 2020, science operations conducted with limited staff were re-established at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona and at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (), Gemini South, and SOAR facilities in Chile after their suspension on 18 March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, since mid-May 2020, the Gemini North NSO - AURA ASTRONOMY GONG is a six-station network of extremely sensitive solar imagers located around Earth, including a site on Cerro Tololo in Chile. GONG provides continuous imaging of the Sun and its solar magnetic field, and has been identified as a crucial asset for space weather operational forecasting. NSO - AURA ASTRONOMY NSO supports facilities that provide forefront observational opportunities for the solar research community, and leads construction of the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope (DKIST) on Maui in Hawaii, to be completed in 2020. LEADERSHIP - AURA ASTRONOMY Vice President and Head of Mission, Chile. Mario Hamuy comes to AURA from the University of Chile where he was a Full Professor of Astronomy. He served as Chairman of Board of CONICYT where he designed implementation and evaluation of public policies for science and technology in Chile.
