In 2011, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) defined a systematic evidence review as “a scientific investigation that focuses on a specific question and uses explicit, prespecified scientific methods to identify, select, assess, and summarize the findings of similar but separatestudies.
WOMEN’S HEALTH SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION (WCS) The American Board of Physical Therapist Specialties (ABPTS) oversees the Women’s Health Clinical Specialist Board Certification.Earning this certification indicates that a Physical Therapist (PT) has proven that he/she has the knowledge, skill, and experience exceeding that of an entry-level physical therapist and unique to the area of women’shealth practice.
CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT IN PELVIC HEALTH AND OBSTETRIC The Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (APTA Pelvic Health) awards the Certificate of Achievement in Physical Therapy (Obstetric Physical Therapy or Pelvic Health Physical Therapy) to licensed Physical Therapists (PTs) who complete a series of comprehensive evidence-based education courses, written and clinical testing at each level and a written case report rigorously reviewed by the APTA PELVIC HEALTH BLOG Kate Divine, PT, DPT, Lisa McVey, PT, DPT. Current healthcare models view urinary tract infections (UTIs) as a medical condition; however, bacteria may not be the only culprit for symptoms associated with UTIs. There is growing evidence that chronic UTIs can be effectively treated with conservative physical therapy management. PHYSICAL THERAPY IN ADDITION TO STANDARD OF CARE IMPROVES Nearly 20% of adult women in the U.S. report moderate to severe urinary incontinence, but few receive treatment. A new Funding Opportunity Announcement from AHRQ seeks applications for increasing the dissemination and implementation of patient-centered outcomes research findings in primary care practices to improve nonsurgical treatments for urinary incontinence among adult women. WHAT DO I NEED FOR STARTING MY PELVIC HEALTH PRACTICE In part 1 of this “What Do I Need” series, I talked about wants and needs for the space in which you might be managing patients and clients with pelvic health conditions. Here in part 2, I consider the supplies and equipment. As far as supplies and needs go, there are the bare minimum or absolute needs, extending to the other end of the spectrum of the “If I had a million dollars” items.APTA PELVIC HEALTH
