GLOBAL PATTERNS OF HOTTEST, COLDEST AND EXTREME DIURNAL Abstract. Most previous studies of extreme temperatures have primarily focused on atmospheric temperatures. Using 18 years of the latest version of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature (LST) data, we globally investigate the spatial patterns of hot and cold extremes as well as diurnal temperature range (DTR). SUBMESOSCALE EDDIES IN THE UPPER OCEAN OF THE KUROSHIO Abstract. The submesoscale energy budget is complex and remains understood only in region-by-region analyses. Based on a series of nested numerical simulations, this study investigated the submesoscale energy budget and flux in the upper ocean of the Kuroshio Extension, including some innovations for examining submesoscale energy budgetsin general.
ATMOSPHERIC TELECONNECTIONS FROM THE EQUATORIAL … Abstract. The “high index” response of the northeast Pacific westerlies to big positive anomalies of equatorial sea temperature, observed in the winter of 1957–58, has been found to repeat during the major equatorial sea temperature maxima in the winters of 1963–64 and 1965–66. PHYSICS-AUGMENTED DEEP LEARNING TO IMPROVE TROPICAL Abstract. A deep learning-based method augmented by prior knowledge of tropical cyclones (TCs), called DeepTCNet, is introduced to estimate TC intensity and wind radii from infrared (IR) imagery over the NorthAtlantic Ocean.

An attempt is made to estimate the temperature changes resulting from doubling the present CO 2 concentration by the use of a simplified three-dimensional general circulation model. This model contains the following simplications: a limited computational domain, an idealized topography, no beat transport by ocean currents, andfixed cloudiness.
