This battle was a gateway to the rest of the western United States. If we didn’t succeed in defending Midway, Hawaii or even California would have been the next targets of the Japanese fleet. The skies swarmed with dozens of Japanese zeros launching from aircraft carriers, led by the Imperial Fleet’s flagship, the Akagi. THE 101ST AIRBORNE IN WWII Live. •. His Army service included leadership of tank and armored cavalry units in Germany, Vietnam, and the U.S. WWII: THE JAPANESE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941 changed the lives of Japanese Americans forever. VETERANS OF UNDERAGE MILITARY SERVICE. An astounding number of American teenagers, both male and female, altered their birth dates in order to serve their country during World War Two. The practice reached its peak in 1943. Over time, nearly 50,000 were detected and sent home. Among the many who eventually managed to enlist, a handful was discovered – court martialled –and then

He was assigned to Company 351-444, Camp Waldron, United States Naval THE GUNS OF POINTE DU HOC AS REMEMBERED By Leonard G. Lomell, Army Ranger, 2nd Ranger Battalion. In the days leading up to the invasion of Europe in June, 1944, a major worry of the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force was the five giant 155MM coastal artillery guns believed to be stationed by the Germans at Pointe du Hoc in France. BOB LIKAM | AMERICAN VETERANS CENTER Bob Likam was a combat engineer with the 101st Airborne Division. He jumped into France on D-Day and fought with his unit through northern France. When he went back to England one month later, only half of his unit went back with him. This battle was a gateway to the rest of the western United States. If we didn’t succeed in defending Midway, Hawaii or even California would have been the next targets of the Japanese fleet. The skies swarmed with dozens of Japanese zeros launching from aircraft carriers, led by the Imperial Fleet’s flagship, the Akagi. VETERANS OF UNDERAGE MILITARY SERVICE. An astounding number of American teenagers, both male and female, altered their birth dates in order to serve their country during World War Two. The practice reached its peak in 1943. Over time, nearly 50,000 were detected and sent home. Among the many who eventually managed to enlist, a handful was discovered – court martialled –and then
