I visited this site in September, 2017. The closest access point to Stratton Lake is the Achray access point, through the Sand Lake Gate. I’d never seen a root fire before this one on Frank Lake. We saw the smoke from the lake and found about ten feet of ground eaten away by the fire. I don’t particularly need to see another one any time soon, so watch those fires while you’re out there folks. @smokeybear thanks you. (P.S. this picture is us trying to douse the fire with our food bowls. It wasn’t the best firefighting plan ever. Also, pretty much the first thing the fire department told me when I got through to them was that we shouldn’t be trying to put it out ourselves. You never know if the ground you’re walking on is stable or if there’s a layer of smoldering charcoal just below the surface.(P.P.S. also, Frank Lake gets cell service)). . . . #algonquinpark #algonquinparkig #algonquinprovincialpark #nature #ontarioparks #getoutside #wegetoutside #getoutdoors #wilderness #wildernessculture #outdoors #explorealgonquin #canadagram #exploreontario #paddling #sharecangeo #paddlecanada #allofalgonquin #epicalgonquin #imagesofcanada #paddleforever #paddleon #backcountry #myadventurecanada #rootfire My favorite thing about taking pictures of people on portages is knowing that if I’m holding the camera I’m not holding the canoe.
