Maretta Greer, another of Allen’s “girlfriends”, his mantra teacher, spiritual goad, and sometime live-in companion, when she wasn’t (as she was, a good deal of the time) wandering barefoot around India. She’d left home at aged fifteen to become a saddhu.. Gordon Ball recalls glimpsing her in Allen’s company, in 1966 at the Jonas Mekas Cinematheque: ALLEN GINSBERG'S FBI FILES Allen Ginsberg in Cuba with a plane shot down in The Bay of Pigs. REMEMBERING PHIL OCHS Phil Ochs (1940-1976) Michael Schumacher is the author/editor of several books on Allen Ginsberg, (notably Dharma Lion, the 1992 biography, (revised and expanded, 2016), but also this one and this one – and, most recently, this one) – but it’s the subject of another of Michael’s books that’s our focus today, April 9, (on the anniversary of his passing) – the late great folk singer JOHN DONNE - 15 (CONCLUSION) - THE ALLEN GINSBERG PROJECT AG: Well, there ‘s the idea that there is an experience of connection, that maybe you’ve had it, intermittently, but to get the complete thing. – “When thou hast done, then thou hast done” – In other words, Donne has to be taken up to the God of Death to be completely one with Christ. However, on the night of February 23, 1977 in New York, at The St Mark’s Poetry SONIC YOUTH (AND ALLEN GINSBERG) Sonic Youth‘s “Hits of Sunshine (for Allen Ginsberg)” on the 1998 album, A Thousand Leaves, is a stand-out track and one we can’t believe we haven’t spotlighted before. Allen and the band became close friends and performed together on several occasions towards the end of his life.
