GLOBAL WARMING
Introduction. Global warming is the increase of average world temperatures as a result of what is known as the greenhouse effect. Certain gases in the atmosphere act like glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunlight through to heat the earth's surface but trapping the heat as it radiates back into space. BEES | LESSON PLANS FOR TEACHERS | YOUNG PEOPLE'S TRUST Bees. With around 250 species of bee living here in the UK, these key pollinators make a huge impact on our lives - even if we don't always realise it! The Effect on Wildlife. Many, many species of plants and animals are likely to be affected by climate change. Let’s pick out a few examples: Polar Bears – These wonderful animals need ice to live on; it is their habitat and they are specifically adapted to hunting and breeding on and around it.DESERT REGIONS
Deserts and the Effects of Humans. There is evidence that deserts have existed for million of years on this planet. They do, however, seem to shift and change quickly in terms of geological time. Six and a half million years ago, the Mediterranean Sea was a desert. It had a series of salty lakes and was dotted with isolated volcanoes, which CARING FOR FROGSPAWN AND TADPOLES 1. The water should be changed at least twice a week to avoid contamination. 2. Water temperature is very important, between 15°C and 20°C is the best temperature for tadpoledevelopment.
RABBIT - TERRITORY
Territory. Rabbits are sociable animals and live in colonies in burrow systems known as warrens. A warren is dug to a depth of 3 metres, may cover a large area and has many entrances. The inside is a maze of interconnecting tunnels, living quarters and nesting chambers. Usually there is a dominant doe within the colony and she will fight otherOVERPOPULATION
Overpopulation of a species is the term used when the numbers of that species start to exceed the resources available to sustain them. This can be caused by an increase in the number of babies being born and also by the population living longer lives. During these months there is plenty of food around for the young fish. In the early spring, the male stickleback undergoes quite a dramatic transformation. His throat and belly become a bright orange-red, his eyes turn bright blue and silvery scales appear on his back. PALM OIL - WHAT IS PALM OIL USED FOR? Oceans. The pollution described above can easily end up in sea water simply by being transported there by rivers. River estuaries and coastal waters are particularly affected. In addition, a lot of waste is deliberately dumped in the open sea. The most serious problem is radioactive waste which began to be disposed of after the second WorldWar.
GLOBAL WARMING
Causes. One of the main greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide (CO2). As trees grow they take in CO2 from the air. When the wood dies the CO2 is returned to the air. Forest clearance and wood burning (such as happens in tropical rain forests) is increasing the latter half of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT The lesson plans are written to accompany a PowerPoint presentation, which is filled with brilllant visual resources to facilitate learning and inspire pupils' interest. Suitable for Key Stage 1 & 2, with additional relevance at Key Stage 3. Areas covered: What sustainable development means. Pollution –HEDGEHOG - BREEDING
Breeding. Hedgehogs are ready to breed in April. If you hear loud snuffling and grunting noises at night in the garden, it may be hedgehogs mating. The male (boar) circles round the female (sow), sometimes for hours, trying to persuade her to mate. After mating, the male leaves, taking no part in rearing the young. The female makes aspecial
ROBIN - ROBINS AND HUMANS Robin. Robins and Humans. The robin is a popular visitor to gardens and is well-known for its tameness. In the winter they will regularly visit a bird-table to eat kitchen scraps. Robins have become symbols of Christmas-time in Britain and are often depicted on Christmas cards. Overview. Territory.RAINFORESTS
Forests are destroyed for a number of reasons:-. 1) The growth of populations in countries with rainforest. 2) An increase in worldwide demand for tropical hardwoods has put a greater strain on the rainforests. 3) Cattle Grazing in South America. 4) Soya plantationsin South America.
