Items discovered in similar ground conditions in Coppergate helped change the world’s perception of the Vikings and made York world-renowned. BRITAIN'S OLDEST BRAIN! Sonia O'Connor, from Archaeological Sciences, University of Bradford, was able to confirm that this was brain. With the help of York Hospital’s Mortuary they were able to remove the top of the skull in order to get their first look at this astonishingly well-preservedhuman brain.

The location, next to the original Roman crossing of the River Ouse, and the scale of the dig site makes us anticipate very exciting discoveries that link Roman Eboracum with York’s future. Items discovered in similar ground conditions in Coppergate helped change the world’s perception of the Vikings and made York world-renowned. BRITAIN'S OLDEST BRAIN! Sonia O'Connor, from Archaeological Sciences, University of Bradford, was able to confirm that this was brain. With the help of York Hospital’s Mortuary they were able to remove the top of the skull in order to get their first look at this astonishingly well-preservedhuman brain.

This site was part of a large cemetery on the outskirts of the Roman town of Eboracum, across the river from the legionary fortress. The burials displayed evidence that so intrigued the BRITAIN'S OLDEST BRAIN! Sonia O'Connor, from Archaeological Sciences, University of Bradford, was able to confirm that this was brain. From 2004-5 we excavated eighty burials at Driffield Terrace in York. This site was part of a large cemetery on the outskirts of the Roman town of Eboracum, across the river from the legionary fortress. BRITAIN'S OLDEST BRAIN! Sonia O'Connor, from Archaeological Sciences, University of Bradford, was able to confirm that this was brain. With the help of York Hospital’s Mortuary they were able to remove the top of the skull in order to get their first look at this astonishingly well-preservedhuman brain.
