While working at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, he invented the World Wide Web. It was there where he wrote the first Web client (a combination of browser and editor) and the first Web server. His original specifications of URLs, HTTP and HTML were widely adopted and refined as Web technology spread. In 2001 he became a fellow of the Royal Society, and more recently he received the 2007 Charles Stark Draper Prize, given by the National Academy of Engineering (US). His plenary talk will take place on Wednesday May 9at WWW2007.
